Does this setup work well? Is a belt-drive enough to sample to 1k?

make sure you have a mixer to boost the signal. That will be good enough

If you're going to get samples off wax, record through a mixer into you computer, then chop, flip, time stretch, add some effects and compressor etc...then load your samples to the MPC. I promise your stuff will sound 1000 times better.

Get a Numark PT01. You don't need a preamp or anything, just plug an audio cable from it's headphone jack into the MPC. It's made to be portable too, you can throw 6 D batteries in there and take it with you where ever you go. I got one!

^^^^
that doesnt' give a good signal. Get a regualr table. I have a PT01 and its good for listing, but it doesn't give that full sound of a reg table with some decent needles

and what kind of a mixer should I get??

Just buy a turntable that has the pre-amp self powered and built in like the Stanton Str8 digitals. Then all you need to to hook the damn thing up.

this thred prompted me to ask this in another section-- but i figured id askhere too

soooo-- yesterday igot the ultimate collection of 1920's to 1940s jazz 78's

about 180 records for 15 dollars -allperfect condition- zero skips - i'll put some info pictures and other **** up on em411 sometime for people to check out --causeit is mindblowing - BUT

theyre 78s - so i needed a turntable tha could play them -- someone recommended me the numark pt01, and i was just goingto get a **** old table but i decided to go with the pt-o1 because i didnt want to wear out my records with crappy old needles -

when i was checkin out atthe registar with the thing i noticed it didnt have phono out -- so i asked about it and the dumbass tech dude really didnt have an answer -

but now ive been listening to records and enjoying them over th little speaker -- but when i plug the thing into my motu or the mpc it just sounds like **** -- no low end - really heavily pronouced crackle -- terrible stuff -

i saw someone else mention this in the mpc1000 section so i figured i should get some opinions

is the pto1 really this bad - or is there anything that can be done about it??
should i just take the **** thing back and demand a refund?
is there anyother affordable table out there that can play 78's??

i really like the little thing, but if i can get better sound out of a differnt table than i thinkim going to have to go for it -

Don't you need special needles for 78 rpm?

the needle is not the problem.... it's the table. if you have a 1200 or something like it, you will not be able to play 78's. back in the day's phonographs used to only have 78 and 45, then 33 1/3 came out rendering the 78's obsolete. you have to find an old table that can play it.

no the pt1 is not good for sampleing. Like when I upraded to a regular cheap staton table I got more low end coming into my samples and a fuller sound I noticed right awat
