Here's the formula to make money:
1. Make Jiggy Hip-Pop or Crunk beats. (No grimy sampling)
2. Do anything to meet powerful people in the record company.
3. Be a Yes Man, also known as a Sellout
4. Sign away your freedom in unfair contracts with the powerful labels
5. Get whack "emcees", like Chingey or Nelly to "rap" on your beats
6. Make a degrading, unrealistic, uncreative, music video with almost naked young women shaking their booties. (Sex sells and lots of bling)
7. Flood radio and TV with constant rotation of your music.
8. Continue to teach the youth this false culture of sex, violence and floss'n, so you can continue to sell your whack ass music.

This is my game plan! 8)
Can you sense my sarcasm?

...It's funny cause that sell-out formula is pretty much on hit in a weird way. Only thing you left out was...
'9.Make sure the music you make is appealing to teenage girls.' LOL!

Labels don't want the challenge of trying to sell records to regular people or heads no more. They lowered the bar to the formula that works best for them. The saddest part about 'urban' music or what's considered new 'hip-hop' these days is it really is akin to disco in a sense. Not the actual music itself, but the rate at which talented people that really have something to contribute to hip-hop or music in general are willling to drop what they're doing to conform for the big pay-off.

I know too many talented MC's and producers that are all trying to make sickeningly radio-friendly material cause they think that's what's gonna get them in the door and impress the majors. This one clown was tryin to hustle some free production out of me. I played him a lot of beats and dude was barely noddin' his head. At the end of the whole listening, dude was like "I'm trying to make a 'club album'"...A CLUB ALBUM?? What the f*ck is a club album? Sounds like neo-disco to me.

Anyway, back to the disco reference, just like today, a lot of talented funk and rock musicians switched up and either added disco tracks to their sound, or went disco altogether. WHY?? To sell records to a brainwashed public. Sound familiar??

I just notice how all forms of music have found a common sound, right in the middle. I hear (so called) emcees basically singing with big country stars, and pop artists all the time. The real Hip-Hop isn't popular, but everything comes full circle. And when it does, I'll be laughing when all these jiggy cats act like they were always down with the underground. Then a year later they'll be playing the disco rap again.

....My girl listens to this modern rock format radio station I think it's KLLC they call it 'Alice' or sum'n...Anyway, when I hear 'rock' songs these days they are mixed to hip-hop specifications. Overly tight vocals with no real dynamics or anything. It's like rap singing. Ain't no wildin' out like Jim Morrison or Robert Plant screamin in the mic like that old sh*t.

Also, they need to leave the drums alone. Not every pop-rock song needs redundant drum programming just for the sake of having programmed drums!! They probably Protools the 'live' drums in that sh*t anyway. Damn, I love hip hop fa sho, but these engineers and producers didn't need to suck the life out of other music genres just to copy that sh*t!!! Oh well, at least there's still quality bands out there, some well known some under the radar. It's the genres that cats don't like or trip off of that kept the true dynamics in their music---I ain't gon say it though, use your imagination....

Hey Yaw,
It's happened to Hip-Hop too. Remember when emcees use to spit it real; on the radio? They use to be grimy, loud, off-key...Now they're POP, just like everyone else.

It aint gonna stop till the "underground" gets thier fan base hype enuff to actually BUY thier CDs and Tshirts and Stickers! It aint gonna stop till acts, U.G. acts start doing live shows, TOURS, support each other and reach out and do crossover shows. Something like the Sade/Diggable Planets tour line up back in the day or Slum Village/ TV On The Radio kinda line up. It aint gonna stop fo you and it aint gonna stop for me until we stop buyin' all that SH&*T. Start buying the UG sh*&t and stop downloading it. Hang some fukin Deejays and get on the damn request line and tell them to stop playin whack sh*&t on rotation! Pull your little brotha to the side and put some tight azz wax in his hands. Let your little sister roll to skool in your "Little Brother" black hoddie that you orderd online and never wear anyway cos your homies think they are whack!
Man it aint gonna stop till WE the Massive take our culture back from the mouths of MTV, BET, VIBE, TOP40 Radio, Ticketmaster, Clear Channel Radio and Sean Combs. What keeps us apart as a culture, is that we arent connected anymore. We have to get connected and bum rush the store and actually pick up the albums! Black White Hispanics Philipinos Japanese Chinese Koreans Itallians and Puerto Ricans we got to do it here first in America! Yeah I know theres headz in the rest of the world but we got to take it back for us. Back to the roots. It all starts with us on here, and you out there hitting that MPC and rockin' the iMacs. We got to CHECK OURSELVES first! MAKE QUALITY BEATS! EMCEES got to spit with your head in the game. No more wack lyrics, see youre all being eaten by dragons in the real world so dont fool yourselves. When you rap make sure you sh*&t is as tight as Nelly and your flow is fresher than Snoop. Could you stand in a battle with Uncle L! okay how about Shady. If not you betta practice stop releasing non selling stuff.
It aint gonna STOP till we till the UNDERGROUND can produce quality that simply surpasses that which is on the radio and selling out venues across the states and the world.
