shaker tips?

anybody have any good tips for making some good sounding shakers like are on timbaland stuff? i just sample sounds from the motif.. but like how do i get something that sounds fluid without actually recording a shaker instrument.. for example like how it sounds in the beginning of that mase song tell me what you want

sometime i make shakers by moving up the start point of a hi hat so you cant really get that attack and tune it down a little. to lay it down you just gotta mess with different patterns i guess, use what u feel sounds good.

Get the mic hooked up to the big blue mortons salt box, you know the salt box with the little girl with the yellow unbrella on. Get the mic and salt box in your hand perfectly and record the salt shakes right then and there. I have many shakers in my triton but I wanted it to sound a certain way and more realistic. Then you go into your wave editor and/or MPC and process it to suite your tastes. That's what I have done in the past anway. Lots of sounds in the kitchen..

can get a cool effect by taking your sound of a maraca or whatever, copying it and running one of the copys in reverse, then clip off the dead air from the begining of the reversed sample and the loudest part at the end and setting a little decay on it...than using the 1st front copy for a front shake and the reversed one for the back shake...

layer and pan,

use the velocity>start and velocity>attack functions as well as the velocity>filter functions.....you want the notes to cut each other but leave a tiny tail.....vary the velocity to make the notes which define the rhythm the loudest....
