I sample from vynil 99% of the time for the sounds I use and it's easy to forget what samplers were originally about. Recently I got my hands on a few orchestral disks for the S950 and some of the strings are crazy realistic, you can almost hear the bow crossing the strings. Theres somthing special about the low fi sound of multi sampled instruments that sounds right.

does it sound like they only have a few secons of time? Amazing.

Yeah, 12 bit multisamples just ooze the 80's vibe, I love em.

Yo, El, what prompted this post?

I mean I figured everyone who's a serious visitor to this board knows that older machines are perfectly adequate for complex productions. Who's been whining?

I don't know why you get worked up over these spoiled punks in the other MPC forums. If they can't make dope songs with 10 seconds of sample time having over 5 minutes worth will not help their cases.

Plain and simple, they can't hang. Big up to old gear that newjacks sleep on. May they rest in pieces, crumbs.

The difference between the cats who did those demos and your average "modern producer" is 2 things: knowing music and laziness. If u know music then u don't have 2 rely as much on sampling 2 play the music 4 u. Modern samplers can sample the length of an LP on wax so y chop loops if u can just sample the whole thing... right. The only time the 60 doesn't give me enough time is when I'm being lazy and trying 2 sample a long loop. But that's what technology is supposed 2 do..... make things easier. We don't even have 2 chop anymore just let the sampler analyze the waveform and do it 4 u. All in the name of progress.

I couldnt agree more.......

I just "upgraded" from a 2kxl to an EPS 16+

It sounds great and it forces me to work in a whole new way (not to mention it sound a million times better)

my vestax decks pitch +/-60%, after i pitch it up 60% and put it on 45 rpm i was getting a lot more sample..i was lent a 2kxl w/ no upgrades. sample time is 10.9 sec. its kinda nice beause when i slow the sample back down down it adds some dirt the 2k filters, etc..i know this teq. is nothing new but the wild pitch cotntrol on the vestax is taking it a bit further..

..I'm def. feelin the vibe here!! I myself got into a rut relying on Protools for my sequencing which does have it's advantages, but I felt like I wasn't doing sh*t with production that I used to do. Not to mention the feel and all the subtle aspects. I bought a 3000 trying to get back to that, but it didn't last.

I can say (and I don't know why at all, f*ckin strange!!), but once I started messin around with the 60 and heard the playback, feel, etc....'I was like, damn! That's what my sh*t has been missing!...I just bought the damn thing this week, now when I get home from work, I'm lookin through records like a mad man on some excited kid with a new toy type sh*t. Cats said sh*t about this on here, but I didn't believe it...now I do 8)..Probably just sounds crazy but it's true!!

Well I guess I am kind of spoiled cause my S1000 has expanded memory and everything. But on the other hand I do challenge my self by not using all of that and testing my self to setting a limit of 10 seconds per beat or something like that.

I was just impressed with the demos, It was a lot of multi's and sequencing, but just an amazing amount of sound from 8 note poly, just great compositions, it wasn;t an attack, just saying that people try to do something on old samplers and they really have no idea what the high water mark could be, even me. Not saying this stuff is the pinnacle, but it does a whole lot with very little.

Personally i really wish that modern machines had the thought behind the design than the 60 does. if modern gear could flow that smooth i would be all over it too. roger comes out with a new drum sampler sequencer, partnered with anyone, I'd be all over it. people realize now that it isn't just a 60 fetsh, it really does have something that is rare in gear.
