Any turntable will work. (I use a numark TT1600 mk2 belt drive)
Get Studio Monitors before you get headphones, or get both but studio monitors are most important. (Do a search for "Best or Good Studio Monitors" there have been a couple threads where people discuss there favorite monitors.
If you only have a 1k you won't need a mixer right away.
You should first decide whether you want to record on harware or software.
For hardware you can go out and find a tape multitrack or you can use a multitracking hard disk recorder. As far as software you really only need to research on an audio/midi interface and a sequencing software.

Thats what a mixer can be used for. Grimay was probably thinking about a mixing board (?), which you wouldn't need straight off the bat. You might want to look at getting a small 2-channel dj mixer. I use a Rane TTM56 for this, because I used to scratch, but something similar and budget would do.
Getting a turntable with a digital output might eliminate the need for a pre-amp, but I don't know how it would sound.
