I'm in Chicago on a short vacation next week. Anyone care to share some good spots? I'm looking for Funk, R&B, Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, Rock, and Blues.

I'm familary with Dusty Groove. I've heard that Wax Addict is arround the corner from there. Are there any other places that are "must see"?

Thanks!

There is also Gramaphone [sp?] Where the Molemen work or used to work or have a studio there, or something...Never been there. My best friend grew up there and always talks about it.

I dug up this old thread as I'll be visiting Chicago in September.

Any other spots to look out for? Thrift stores?

And clubs/concert venues/hangouts/bars? I'm into all kinds of music but my main thing is hiphop, of the ehm, non-MTV variety ifyouknowwhaddimean.

psht, I live in Chicago and I'm lookin' for the same stuff. Not much to add to the record spots (tho there are few others nearby Gramaphone that haven't been mentioned), but as far as venues, I plan to hit Subterranean's (2011 W North Ave) open mic night on Tuesday, as I've heard it's real good.

I hope all of your spots stay top secret.

Just so you know, I wasn't looking for anyone's top secret dig spots. I was looking for regular ole record stores with good prices, that carried the genres I was looking for. I thought that was obvious by the examples I gave.

No thanks to you, I came home with much more than I expected. Funny how common some records are in other regions. I found records I've been looking for for quite a while.

Thanks too all. I think I touched every spot listed here, and I think I found something at every one.

P.S. I would've thought Dusty Groove was much bigger than that.

Aight, my flight's this wednesday... I'll be in Chicago 'till the 28th.

Any clubs/spots/parties to look out for?
Anything hiphop is good, but I wouldn't mind checking out some punk or indie gigs.

Much appreciated.
