That is an excellent formula for success....Face it, once you've made the buck, you can play whatever you want, whenever you want....making crappy music beats flipping burgers...I vote SELL OUT. Yo've gotta be good at being bad.

By DSTRUCT Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:53 pm
let me rephrase.

is it not hip hop of me to make music with money in mind? like for instance, i get paid to do shows. now if i were to make songs just to get the crowd into my shows and get em movin, is that not hip hop?

Bottom line point here...MAKE MUSIC FROM YOUR SOUL
Make music cause you love too. Hustle your music cause you love it. Don't be a sell out. Don't make some music that's wack just becaue it sells better. Make what you like, not what others around you want.

To all you people that hate on us backpackers...that's cool, cause we hate you twice as much. You've almost destroyed the culture for money.

And last but not least...Jaem, don't ever talk about my sex life, when you don't know a damn thing about it. I'm married with 2 kids, and have very sexy wife that gives it to me on the regular, and the 'ish is the bomb. Imature little bastard.

the term sellout is for dudes who grew up rich or immature kids.

oh it comes from the soul definitely. I would never make wack music and put it out regardless if everyone likes it. but when i do shows im not doing my most obsure songs because i dont like the crowd to just stand there, trying to figure out the sounds and sh*t.

I've never had money...And I'm not motivated by it. I was on food stamps as a kid and lived in the projects as a teenager. So again, you don't know who I am. What I do know is you're a sellout. Look man, there is more than one music or culture considered Hip-Hop. You got backpackers and gangsters and jiggy Hip-Pop etc. Here is the difference: Gangsta rap is false...it makes the life of crime look glamorous. Hip-pop is false; its elements consist of money, bling, cars and hoes. How can the average kid live this life? Underground Hip-Hop has 4 elements: Breaking, Emcee, D-jay, and Graffiti. This is what I had growing up...it didn't cost me much money and I love it. You need to read some hip-hop history. Listen to some Old Skool Hip-Hop. Understand the roots of the culture. Then figure out how you can contribute to that, instead of destructing it. Watch the movie Brown Sugar, it shows how you gimmicky rappers are fu-king up what we love.
Destruction to answer your question: If you make music cause you love it, it's def cool to select what the crowd might like.
