MPC Controller Issue

On the samplekings.com website they have a triton keyboard hooked up to their MPC2000XL and they are playing patterns on the triton and recording it as tracks on the MPC. I was wondering if this can be done with a midi controller keyboard or if theres a function specific to the triton keyboard that lets them record down to tracks on the MPC.

Not sure I understand the question? Laying MIDI tracks and MIDI info into the MPC is it's primary function (!), so you can use any keyboard to input MIDI tracks into it. The only difference is a standard MIDI controller has no sounds to play at the same time like you do with a Triton, so you'll need some kind of sound source for the MIDI notes to trigger.

So what would be my cheapest option considering i already have
the midi controller keyboard. Am i better off buying a sampler (maybe an older akai sampler S900 or S950) so
the controller keyboard has sounds or am i better off forking
out the money for a triton or motif type keyboard? I dont want
things to get so complicated i forget about making the music.

This has been slowly eating away at my brain for some time now

The sampler that would apply the sounds to the keyboard controller would need to be able to apply a single sound accross the keyboard (I think this is called Auto Cromatic Assignment ?). Which samplers can do this for me.

I take it you don't have an MPC yet?

Basically, you can use any sampler to do what you want to do, even the MPC's built-in one (although it's not anyway near as advanced as most dedicated samplers).

You can also buy a sound module like an Emu Mophatt and use your control keyboard to play the sounds - you can then use a sequencer to record the midi notes (i.e. an MPC or a computer sequencer).

Or, you can just buy an MPC, sample a load of sounds into it, and use the pads or your controller to play those internal sounds

Midi keyboard that you already have and your MPC and you should be fine. You can trigger samples that reside on the MPC, remember the MPC IS ALREADY that sampler you are looking for when sounds are loaded into it.

I currently have a roland Ed PC-300 midi controller keyboard and an MPC2000XL, im defernatly setting it up wrong. Could i hassle you to explain how i would go about setting it up correctly.


A Note :
I only have a midi out on my
RolandED PC-300 so how would the keyboard send the signal back
to the MPC so it can record what i have palyed ?

midi out of midi controller -> MPC A INPUT
midi out of MPC 1 -> soundsource INPUT

thats pretty much it

if your midi controller is also the soundsource (triton, motif, etc) then you substitue soundsource and midi controller for the keyboard.
