they're probably referring to a bassline. I've made a lot of beats recently with no bass- it makes a difference, man. slap some 'bottom' on that and you suddenly realize that your track may have needed just that to bring it to life.

Bottom is the lower (or bottom) end of the sounds spectrum. This is where your bass and kicks are chillin, as well as other deeper sounds. The Bottom is an area that can get muddy real quick, so you gotta be careful down there (unintentional humorous metaphor )
