stupid question

Hey, im planning on buying a MPC 2000XL
WHat i want to check before buying my MPC is..
Do i only need an MPC and headphones, and are things like a CD-Rom or midi keyboard optional, or do i need them to start.

you can use headphones, yea. the mpc does not have built in speakers. you'll either need headphones or speakers/monitors. i would recommend getting a decent pair of monitors and connecting them to the mpc's stereo outs.

a cd rom drive is definately optional. a midi keyboard is optional, but i do recommend getting one that's capable of midi...of course you dont need one

you can use the XL stand alone, i do it like that. you will need a samplesource like a turntable and something to record you songs to like a cassette deck or even your computer...

seriously, read the manual of the XL before you buy it and hang around on the forums. you need to know what your gonna buy and what it can do for you...

I made the mistake of thinking that I had to buy a CDROM when I got my MPC. Now I use it for the ONE sample CD that I bought. Seriously, I don't even remember the last time I opened that drives drawer...

yea I rushed out and bought a cd drive myself. and it didnt even work. but it isnt necessary at all

well i already bought the MPC, cause i could get it for 800 dollars, quite cheap.. and in my country its hard to get them.. the prices in the shops are insane.

I did got the manual before i bought it, and i know i want the thing.
Now lets see how fast i learn.

800dollars is a nice price, i paid mine the same price in belgium, over here they are also quite hard to find, but i got lucky you'll be undestanding the machine in no time! its verry straight forward, just remeber to press "open window" alot, that way you can discover alot of features...
