I dont' know about "best." I rarely like to use that word.
Most of my favorite producers from the west don't represent that 'typical' west coast sound.......Madlib, Chief XL, PBWolf, Shadow, Nu-Mark, Young Einstein, Automator, etc.

...cats frontin' on Fred Wreck. Man, I gotta hear about Alchemist who's 90% sample based at best but not Fred Wreck??? BOOOOOOOOOO!! And what about Rick Rock. Not totally feelin all the bay sh*t he's doin, but man, 'Change the game', 'Make it clap' and the Busta Rhymes/Mariah Carey joint from a couple of years back we're big hits. And Quik is all around one of the best period any coast.

Alchemist? . I dig dude but there's better west coast cats than that. I'm pretty versatile myself, so these sample/vinyl reliant artists are snoozy man. GET A BAND AND PUT IT DOWN FOR REAL! At least Shadow and Cutchemist can do some pretty tricky stuff live just with DJ decks.....Other than that it's clear media attention guides people's taste these days..hip hop is too Hollywood now  5000

the ALC is from the hollywood hills. when asking who'sthe best it would be nice if u broke it down to sampling and non sampling. cause there is a difference. not that one is better than the other but there is a difference.

oh and the ALC gets my vote!

count ALC out, I mean he's from the west but his sound is straight East and 90% of his beats are with artists from NYC

By cooocooo1 Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:01 pm
Alc and Fred Wreck should box, I mean one is Jewish and the other is Palestinian so they not supposed to get along anyway. I got my money on Fred, Alc went to school wit 90210 cats, hes a fruitcup

word up on the mention of "young einstein", that fool got hot beats... the mcs in his group arent the greatest, but they do what they do well... but einstein is way ill...
