WORD. I love to hit amoeba (where they dont know how to price funk/r&b/hip-hop at all. I found 2 Company flow singles (end to end burners is hotness), 3 bux each, hahahahahahahahahahah I copped those without event thinking about it.

I just found the original to Mariah Careys "Heartbreaker" in one of my crates. "Attack of the Name Game" by Stacy Lattisaw. I always go thru my crates and find something different each time. I once found the loop for that song by Al Tariq and Peter Gunz. I'm not much of a DITC person, I find it quite boring, but I do raid the thrift store dollar bins and just take about ten at a time.

somebody mentioned...les mCcann "lets talk to the people"....i have that too...how funky is that record!? i love it so much i wont even sample it. I just throw it on mixes for my boys......If you are serious about maknig beats, and having your own sound....do what i do (and many others are gettin onto the trend)...TRAVEL.

There are so many vinyl archaeologists in both the US and JAPAN..that you're rarely going to find anything new. The funkiest sht i have is stuff I got in obscure places....random old record shop in Salvador, Brazil full of Old school bossa nova records...that old rock 45' shop in Antwerpen, Belgium, etc.

Of course..I did Semester at Sea when I was undergrad..so I got to travel the world...but on the real...go international. look at Timbaland, rkelly, dre, sermon and all these guys how they are sampling middle eastern ish now...lol. i aint no pro...but thats my 2 cents....

i hate when people know what you sampled...although it is fun to completely FLIP well known samples.

werd. traveling is mad key to any ARTIST. You gotta go get beyond the borders you create (even though we will ALL say, we gots no borders, we all do, we just cant spot them).

Getting out exposes you to a different vibe, a diff. attitude. Just look at the WU tang when they came back form they first tour of asia, they were all on some different ish (xcept dirty, but oh well, he's dirt mcgirt).

I been to Europe, Asia and every time I go, I know that I am gonna hear some ish, see some ish etc. that Ima wanna use, so I stay strapped with my mini digital camera and a pen and pad at all times when I'm out of bounds.

Plus, its cool to go dig in diff spots, I like diggin, I could spend a whole day in some spots I dig at and not even come close to being done.

best diggin is in europa tho, I remember we jumped in a taxi and I said "take me to this record store" and dude looked at me all crazy, I made the "wicka-wick-wicka" scratch motion and he knew what I was talking about. ILL. hahahaha

oh, and BTW I say best cuz Japan got the ill selection but at the whack prices.

I picked up Blue Note's "Blue Note Live at the Roxy"(1976) for 5 pounds out in Kings Lynn (U.K.). It's got Ronnie Laws, Donald Byrd and Earl Klugh on it with others. The record shop owner was pissed that it was mismarked. He said it goes for 75 pounds ($110) but let me have it cuz I'm always in there diggin'.

Anyway.... I been sample'n 50s music for the past week. I just read somebody say somethin about take'n trash and flippin' it into sumthin hot. I agree... I been real proud of myself lately.

I can be there in 3 hours!! I digg everywhere..If I smell vinyl I am there..!! In my place close to Amsterdam I've got this shop who sells only funk/soul/jazz (also european jazz etc) it's great.. 4 euro's shit.. nad i've got this place that's 1 dollar bin ish.. lot's of bulllshit ish..but I found me there some nice ish!! I digg until my hands are cold haha
