Actually, that was Kurtis Blow....

On which tracks, Boogie Man? I always think of Kurtis Blow as being from the live band era of hip hop records.

He started using a sampler first because his dj couldn't keep the track on time , I read somewhere...

i'd like to point out that puts and thes one can be bundled under one group, just say thes and double k.

Man i gotta say Pete Rock. Primos beats give me goosebumps but you can emulate him if you try. But Pete rock, I cant even touch the tracks he was making in '92. Ever try rocking the horns -- impossible. Not to mention that he is continuosly changing his style and is still (somewhat) relevant today. With Primo I can hear what hes doing on the mpc, with Pete, I am clueless. Of course I think Primo has more consistency as there are a lot of Pete beats I dont like. My 2 pennies.

No disrespect to Pete Rock and Premier and all them, but you don't see any Strictly Breaks records of Madlib production. You could argue that he is not as well known as Pete Rock and Primo, but I'm making the statement that some of his stuff people just can't figure out. Some of his samples just blow my mind, and I will never be able to figure out what they are, which makes me go even crazier. I did a post on the-breaks forum about breaking down Madlib's production, came up with a long list of samples, and that still didn't even come close to covering some of his major works. Maybe you guys know the samples (and if you do, I'd love to know) but songs like "Raw Addict" and "Bus Ride". Crazy production, and crazier samples. If we are talking about deepest crates, my vote goes to Madlib, hands down.

uh actually madlib freely admits to using comps such as strictly breaks and the like. And mad resissues. And alot of his samples arent super rare. I like him alot but it aint some mind bending shit. He got a good ear and good arrangement skills. He does have mad shit though, but alot of his shit for production isnt crazy rare. For some cats with some deep crates, peep kon and amir, diplo, supreme.
