As I'm moving from MPC1000 to 2000XL I've made a couple of tests regarding loading times, with quite interesting results.
As people are saying, SND samples are definately loading faster than WAV. Much faster.
To load a program with 46 samples with the total of 18,8 megabyte data, in SND format, it took 52 seconds. If the program used WAV-samples, it took exactly one minute more, in other words 1 minute and 52 seconds.
I also checked if there were any benefits using an MPC2000XL disc, compared to a PC formatted disc. The answer is no. There are no difference in speed.
The test were made with a compact flash reader with an average speed compact flash card, with the capacity of 512 megabyte. The OS were 1.14 (v1.2 is far to unstable).
Using a 250 ZIP-drive (scsi) the loading time for the same stuff is 1 minute and 5 seconds. Not much slower than compact flash, in other words.
As a piece of worthless information, loading the same kit on an MPC 1000 takes just 8 seconds...
