damn brick hit it right on the nose, thats the problem with these new schoolers they dont do there homework they just follow the fads(trends).

man i started collecting records before hiphop even hit the west coast,
i use to listen to this funk station on Am KDIA 1310 in the bay area, they were the sht cause the played hella funk and soul. and i would go out and have my mom's buy me a 45' thats a 7" to you new schoolers.

dont sleep on the good stuff, sure you dont have to use it to sample but study up ,listen to the music being produced ,that was real music, and were do you all think it's coming from these cats,
dont get me wrong i sample and make hiphop too. but i buy a ton of records no matter how much just to appreciate the music of the past and to hear some great real music cause todays music is sht.
peace

Ha ha......yeah, that sounds good on a record...
But, I don't believe for a second that Madlib never pays more than $10 for a record.

werd, when I first, very first got into samplin to make my beats(before I tried using software to make my own hooks because I didn't have anyone to show me the art of diggin)I looked for samples or whatever, but it totally opened my eyes and ears to the plethora of good music there is out there. See with me, I have had to teach myself how to go about things, I don't have any friends who are down so it's all me discovering this stuff. It gives me that warm fuzzy feelin though when I find some good music, that can also be used to flip a track with.

Listen I Have bouth Sun RA at $35.00 and I Have Also Bought George Benson at $1.00 and I'd Be A LIAR IF I SAID outright that U Must Spend over $10.00 for VINYL....that's NUTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd Be The First to Tell U I'm Eyeballin' that 9th Creation Joint but then head to the Lab and Sample Some SUPERTRAMP..................

People LEARN What worX and Maybe MORE SO LEARN WHAT DOES NOT....

See Some people think that as U Become More Experienced in DIGGIN' U Spend MORE money actually In MANY cases I SPEND LESS Because I KNOW What A Common Dollar RECORD is .......So When I See A RECORD in The Dollar Bin that IS Not a Common Dollar Record I SNATCH it Up Plus I Know MY Artist/Time Periods/Labels n Genres that WORK 4 ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW Many time Have U Seen ANNIE at the Thrift Shop or Dollar Bins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that Jay-Z track Worked it.................NUFF SAID.............................

And As FOR Choppin Sometimes I Think People think I'm Playin or Preachin' when I Say IT NO..........CHOP..........Please DO........................

See A Man Can Find the Same Sample as U but A Man Will NOT make the Same track If U CHOP and BLEND correctly..................................

TRUST THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See Record Store Dollar Bins I'm Not Very into but I'll Do that also............(see the record store dollar bins at least by me often have damaged goodz that they prolly could not sell at full price) but the trick is the thrift or charity Shop Does not care about the records................

It could be PLANETARY CITIZEN HOT!!!!!!!!!!! or Herb Alpert COLD!!!!!!!!!!!

they Stiil Charge that $1 or $2 Fee..............and I'm LUVIN' IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yo i think we all miss undastood this thread too, it was buying quality peice's of vimyl that means to me to dig for music that is good. so if you dont kno good music then your stuck having to buy records you kno nothing about,
i buy stuff out the bins too ,dont get me wrong but my first instinct is to look for something i kno i dont have, or a better copy of what i do have, and yes that means sometimes i have to go to a record store to pay that extra cash, but to me it worth the money , be cause it something i want and can't find in the dollar bins,
See Some people think that as U Become More Experienced in DIGGIN' U Spend MORE money actually In MANY cases I SPEND LESS Because I KNOW What A Common Dollar RECORD is
mpc4000 thats tru but why do you kno this because you have study some of the other recprds you have scored on right? thats what some of the new schoolers need to do is study from past records then when they go to the bins they are not just pullin out stuff there not going to listen too,
if you just buy records to sample them your wasting your time and money.

i have a lot of records but on those records theres at least 1,2, or 3 cuts that i bought it for , why because i 've heard a song on the album or i kno a musician in that group is from some other group i like and i like the way they play.
just my 2 cents

man madlib lies. I've dug next to him a couple times, and he definately pays more than ten dollars.

Anyway, lots of valid and good points made by all. I know its all personal opinion and whatever works. Im jus saying, study up and its okay to drop some cash for something ill. If you can buy quality cheaply, more power to you. But, folks will pay two hundred dollars for some kicks but would never buy a 200 dollar record. Some folks spend thousands on equipment to make sample based work and skimp on the records. When I take out my girl to dinner and a movie, thats 60 bucks and I pay it automatically. 20, 40, 100 dollars is not a lot to pay for soemthing that will probabaly last you your whole lifetime and will give you hours and hours of joy.

............... And you might just make an ill track with it, even if you're just using one shots.

I can say that without a doubt Madlib has payed more that $10 for a record. However, I cannot say he doesn't pay more than $10 on every occasion.
