Pre-Sonus Tube Pre Question

I noticed that a couple of you have this pre-amp. Whenever I use it, I get a HELLA hot signal (peaking out my mixer's and DAW's meters) but the analog needle on the tube don't even move. If I get the drive and gain right on my pre-amp to peak the needle when I yell into the mic, then my signal out is so hot it's distorted beyond belief. I even tried applying the -10db pad (I think its -10db) and it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions, fellas? Oh yeah, BTW, I got an Oktava MK-319 Condensor mic and a B.L.U.E. Cranberry mic cable running into it, and a monster cable running into the mixer's mic jack from the pre-amp's 1.4 inch output. Now that I think about, I don't know if the Monster cable is balanced, but I think the 1/4 output is unbalanced anyway.

the best bet is to get a new pre cause that one is pretty sketchy...whats it going into? maybe there is some aplification going on there too.

I always adjust the Drive first with the gain all the way down, until I get the right amount of "tube love" into the sound, and then I adjust the gain to get a good level on the meter.........then I adjust the input level on Pro Tools (or the MPC - whichever it's going into) so it's not peaking too high and slamming the meters on that.


Basically, get the meter on the Tube Pre right first......then adjust your mixer's gain and/or pad to get the level right going in.
