Each measure or bar contains a number of beats. The beats are the steady pulse of music which is played by your metronome. The time signature is what specifies how many beats will be in the bar and how long each beat is worth. The top number of a time signature tells how many beats are in the bar. The bottom tells what kind of not it is. Ex. If the bottom number is 4 then each beat is a 1/4 note. You can very easily figure out what the 16th and 8th note stuff is my setting your mpc to a steady tempo of about 92 and using the note repeat button on a high hat. Make sure you don't put any swing on the high hat though. I don't understand what you are talking about with the question about the sample. Have you even used your mpc? Alot of this is figured out very quickly by just using the mpc.

I think it would've been better for you to buy a basic drum machine such as the alesis SR-16 or one of those Boss Dr's before you bought your mpc cause you really know nothing about making music. Oh well......Its to late now. :?
