I'm assuming you mean an external device, but have you thought about installing an internal multi card reader in your mpc? That way you can save/load to cards up to 2GB in size. And you can get files from your mpc to pc and vice versa by using a digital camera, or you can spend $30 on a seperate USB card reader soley for your computer.
Thats probably what I would do (and did), but compact flash cards etc in the form of 1GB and up are not what I would call cheap. So either a SCSI HD or a CD-Rom might be the way. But if you only want to LOAD to your mpc, then cd is probably the way to go out of those two.

my 2 cents

i would say grab the Internal Card reader, reason being, in the long run, you save money... it my seem expensive at the moment, but if u get an external CD Rom, then you will burn lots of CD's, or you can grab an External or internal Zip Drive, which is pretty good also.... once you to be honest, if you have the chance, you may wanna get all of em like me, if u need all of em, cause i sometimes have cats that also bring me stuff on Zip, and on CD, etc... but in the end, as i always say, it depends on the person....Goodluck
