Hell yeah me too, only selling one, amped me, but after no other takers, I have to re-invent my approach...

Maybe I should go back to that track, and try and understand what made it marketable, seeing that I got multiple offers for that track, and zero for the tons of others I have listed and deleted on soundclick....

Also might have something to do with the fact that it had zero samples...

why when someone has a message of religeous context, it's " trying to force a message down someone's throat"? what about the songs that go to the street and talk about drugs this, b*tch that, i got shot here, and my rims there... what do you think that is doing? in your context of "forcing"... that's doing the same thing... FORCING A MESSAGE DOWN SOMEONE'S THROAT. it's just a message representing street life in opposed to religeous life.

i agree 100% with you on this one. that's totall exploitation. i know of a church where the congregation prohibits you from even dating someone who is not a member of that church. they would go around to your house to see if you have anyone over and if your company was not apart of your church, you would be shunned and not allowed in that church again.

The way I see it, there are two types of music. There is "good" music and "bad" music. You find good and bad music in both christian and secular music. I don't mind being preached to if the message is solid. I don't mind being entertained if I don't have to condescend to appreciate what I'm hearing. I've heard a lot of tight christian rappers. It's funny to me how cats crap on christian rappers for touting their beliefs but, no one ever tripped on Rakim for praising Allah. Nas has never been criticized (to my knowledge) for his religious musings. KRS One doesn't hide his spirituality nor did X Clan back in the day. Let the chrisitian cats rep their faith as well just be tight with the production and flows.

Religious music tends to sound like it's always preaching, and tacky.

How come gospel sounds so good then? If you want something that has soul, that's gotta be it.

BS, those aforementioned weren't only talking about religion or spirituality. They were balanced (for the most part) and talked about everyday things like sex, women, politics, Black nationalism, wack emcees, etc. Things regular, secular, cats could relate to. Also, they weren't trying to constantly portray this image of purity like these Christian acts do. They were imperfect and represented that as well.

The problem with these Christian rappers is that they have to throw "God" in every other bar and that's corny. If you're really a Christian you shouldn't have to throw God's name in 99% of you lyrics. Actions speak louder than words. They would have you believe that they are "holier than thou" when, in many cases, that's not the case. They're preachy and phony.

That said, you guys have to check this "Christian" group called The G.R.I.T.S. They had a couple of dope albums in the 90's Factors of the Seven (1997) and Grammatical Revolution...(1999)

Bassline, BS is a bit strong for a light conversation... There are some christian rappers that have strong religious overtones in their lyrics because they consider this to be their ministry. There are other christian rappers that are more entertaining. Grits are not the only ones. I find some of it to be wack but, I also find a lot of secular rap to be wack as well. I doesn't take much creativity or skill to rhyme about bitches, money, and the hood which is what I'm hearing the majority of the time on the radio.

Interesting topic, i come from a christian music background my self, and believe when i say , production os very important!! VERY!

what i cant understand with heads is, how can you knock suttin that promotes positivity? thats just badmind right there.

Cross Movement, I love there stuff, Green Jade, Zion Noise and loads more paving the way for good music full stop, with a message of love.

Whether you believe on God or not, its a good thing thats going on. cuz for real it is too easy to rap about the negatives than it is to rap about the good.

My 2 Cents, and P.S. JESUS RULES!!!

For all those who seen people switching from Christian to Muslim and back {double minded), those who force you to live under thier leadership keeping you chained and bound, those you hear talking with no action. GET IT STRAIGHT! Those are not CHRISTIANS! They Fakes. A real christian wont waste your time if your don't feel the conversation becuase their are plenty of others that want hear and need the change. All off you need to understand that just becuase you talk about someone does not mean you know him  . Why do so many people base thier lives after Jesus when they don't know Him?
As for those who claim christians preach to much. So does the world!
Examples:
1. Weightloss. Not everyone want's to be skinny. Give me somthen to grab and hold on to. Healthy, not fat eigther (just me).
2. Spamming Emails about penis enlargment. I have not had one woman complain about my size. In my eager years maybe about 5 minute marathons.
3. Go to the army to get college money so you can work for sombody else the rest of your life.
The Christian walk if followed properly would not divide but empowre you all to band together and create your own and others opertunities. You would help each other with business and family and food. Since when has blowing out someones brains for some dope been a glamorous life, made you a hero. What about your kids.
Truth: I use to be concerned with only one thing. Violence -
My drug of choice.
I am real good with guns, knives and my hands. Loved to fight and take a few punches. Don't mind rode trips, plastic and getting my hands dirty. I never handled no-one that didn't cross me first. One day I thought why am I always in so much drama. Answer - Company i keep, what they see and many other open doors. I made a change.
It started with music. I got 15 years of produceing convicted felons that wanted to vent about what they believe they got away with. I don't talk about my self much. You can tell that most of them were fake gangsters, but thier were a few that was as raw as me, as hungry as me and bout it maybe even more than me. The ones that chilled out and left the secular side has children know. I see them actually smile and have what appeares to be some peice. My cusin clowned me saying I was soft becuase I am tiered of that life. He was murdered in one of our studios last november. All those that I dealt with that didn't change are dead (Slow painful deaths). Lifestyle catching up.
My point. Because I told you a tiny portion of my story, You probably think I am preaching. I tell the truth, leave it if you want.
To answer the original question; Rakim and the other greats mentioned were slick with thier word play. Very few artist in main stream gosple take it that serious, the production is not compeating with R&B or Secular RAP. My opinoin. I am trying to change that. I belive that there are going to be alot of HOT tracks coming out soon. Alot of people escaped my old life style that were skilled and now on fire for christ bringing thier talents with them.
