MPC 2000 freezing on me

Hey,

My MPC is freezing on me , I was wondering what troubleshooting steps I need to take. I was wondering if it might be bad memory, or loose memory. Anyone have any things I can try to fix the issue?

It freezes randomly on different screens for no apparent reason but mostly seems to freeze when I try to Rec.

I might need to send it into a shop otherwise, but any suggestions would help.

try downloading the latest OS again...that fixed a few problems I've had in the past....

mine freezes like 4 times a year

Well I have limited it down to the Midi OUTS freezing the machine, whenever I have an insturment slaved , it freezes only then.

looks like I will have to send this in, does anyone know of any good MPC repair places, I think there is one in Miami is it? I live in Florida, the closer the better.

My OS is current, and I even formatted a disk and re-copied files

Any other ideas in the meantime would help, otherwise Im just gonna have to make the mpc a slave fer now which isnt to big of a deal, but not what I want exactly.

you got any dust in it? blow some air on the jog wheel and the pads. its worked for me.

Sell the 2000 and get a 3000 classic. No freezing and a better machine all around, sorry 2000 users I got got both and the 2000 did the job but I just don't find it to be pro grade gear. If you got budget limitation don't do a damn thing, just hit them keys slower and don't hit the pads too fast unless you are in the main/sequencer screen. My 2/100... 5000...PS: oops forgot one more thing, make sure you are in 'analog' mode on the sampling screen. If you have 'digital' selected and no digital source connected to your SPDIF it will crash everytime, pure garbage!!

Geeez, *Wonders how much a new MPC will run me and also wonders how much I can get for a MPC that freezes when it attempts to send midi out*

Yeah, right now I am using it as a slave so its still mostly functional but not what I was hoping for. It has given me more time to work on the art of making new samples...and forced to rely on pattern sequencing controlled by my X-base 09. not entirely a bad thing, in fact once I finish this new sample kit made i will upload it. So far its sounding really frezh.

Thanks for the advice I would if I could, but first I must get a revolution (A TB-303 clone that kicks ass)

I think I am going to have to send this sucker into a shop.
I took it apart and sprayed it clean and checked all the connections, and even switched the memory chips places....to no prevail.

I was just bein honest, I did say if ain't affordable don't do it. I would trouble shoot that joint man, gotta be somethin you may be overlooking. Serious man, I got one of them things and when I used it full time some years back it would always crash at least once a week or so. More really, depending on how fast I was hittin them keys...Sh*t was annoying.

I remember thinkin:'Damn didn't I just buy this thing?'...I brought this whole thing up in another thread so it's actually ironic. Really though the newer MPC's crash more than the older joints. Didn't mean to jeer or ride a cat, my bad... 5000

What's your setup anyway?? That may play a role in this whole thing as well. I didn't think of it before, but I remember having some MIDI problems myself. Not freezing though, I just couldn't get it to trigger my synth modules. But anyway, what are you runnin with the 2000??

As you can see I have alot of MIDI OUT board gear to control with what was my now defunct master sequencer......and I insist on using gear and avoiding the computer except for recording and mastering purposes.

Uh, the midi out is freezing it every time, I tested it.
Any time I turn Midi clock ON for either of the OUT ports....it freezes withing 30 seconds if not instantaneous.

MIDI In seems to work fine though.

A weird problem. I did buy this MPC as used gear so who knows how many nimrods spilled their beer on it.

I would say you got some internal problems with the MPC 2000.

I have had my MPC for 7 years and have never had it freeze up like yall are saying it does. I have it only frozen when I had my Zip drive loose.

Other from that my joint has never had nothing spilled on it, its in a smoke free area, etc... So I would say go get it check out.
