Talk and share knowledge on rare records, sources of new samples, vinyl, diggin, etc

I'm looking for open drums. Do compilation records like Dusty Fingers or Strictly Breaks have open drums to sample? They're all over the record stores, but I want to hear some opinions on these before I drop 15 bucks on one record.

I've been searching through 70's Jazz and Soul records lately and I've come across some decent shit, but I need to stock up on drum sounds real quick like. I figure I'll try these comps out for a minute if theres good drums on 'em.

On another topic, some drummers just do it for me. Their drum kit or style is just raw. Who's the drummer for Bob James? And does he drum for any other bands? Do you guys have any personal favorite drummers?

Late.

Some drummers of Bob James that I can think of...
Steve Gadd
Idris Muhammad
Harvey Mason
Andy Newmark

Each of those guys has played with tons of other artists.

IMO you should just stick with the comps.....

its the easiest, dont bother looking on OG records for drums, its a waste of time, plus all those comps have rare drums no one has ever used....so them comps will make your sound very UNIQUE

Good one. But seriously have all the breaks on these records been used? Even if, you can take a drum and eq, layer, filter that sucker and now you've got your own original sound. Am I right. I am.

Basically I'm asking, do these comps have alot 'open' drums? Open like wide open without bass notes, keys, or steady hi hats/shakers mudding up the hits?

itchyvinyl - I'll definately check into those drummers. You seem like seems like one of the more knowledgable cats around here. Always given some good input. Good shit.

yeah they have a lot of drums, but seriously be prepared to spend more than 15 to find good drums. and its not a waste to look for drums on records, you never know what you'll find in the process.
