Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By richard colourmatch Sun Aug 21, 2005 2:02 pm
Hi All, new to the 4000, got one a few days ago and it has OS 1.03 on it, turned on a few times and crashed, now when I turn it on the OS won't load and screen comes out with boot crashed etc? If I update with the loader software on my Mac will it simply overwrite the old OS?
And also need to install a HD, but have no power leads (I take it I just use a standard IDE cable) can I buy these in the UK.
And finally whats the Max size HD the 400 will take and be stable.

Cheers

When the unit is turned on the screen goes blank and it says

BOOT BLOCK EXCEPTION
DABORT 0XDD33C
FSR 0xC0005003
FAR 0xEA00003A

and thats it?

Mac OS X bootloader doesn't see it at all? HELLLPPPPPPPPPP

i would do the following...
First remove the internal HD (it might be broke or something, you never know). Than fire up the mpc and see if the os loads. if it loads install the drivers on you mac and aksys. Download OS 1.70 and either install that via USB or via an usb stick if you have something like that.. Check to see if os 1.70 is working and try to install the hd again. You need to format a new HD.. If I remember correctly you have to format it with Windows 98SE.. Bummer
Anyway, good luck

You need to reload the OS. Since your MAC dosen't recognize the MPC try using someone elses PC. I doubt the problem you are experinceing has to do with the Hard Drive.

OK, My MPC is the LE model, so no HD at all, is there a chance that a PC will see it !!!
I don't have a PC so I will have to cart the MPC around to try and find one!
Is there no kind of load mode to put the mpc into or is the only way with a PC.
I hope its not F*CK$D.....

Windows 98SE is an operating system you eejit, not a way to format a hard drive!

The drive should be formatted as Microsoft's "FAT32" type.

...XP didnt do it properly :? I know I tried everything... nothing went well, untill I formatted my drives with 98SE!

You need to install the OS LOADER onto a PC, available from www.akaipro.com After installing the OS loader and you open the OS LOADER, the PC should see the MPC. The instructions for loading the OS are posted on this forum somewhere.

After you load the OS turn off the MPC, wait a second, then start it up again. If installing the new OS does not fix the problem you will need to take the MPC in for repair.

Right, I have tried all the different methods included on this thread and still no joy, I am pissed!
Spoke to Akai /numark UK and their getting back to me.
As a final try, does anyone know of any service modes/master reset/flashs I can do?
Really don't want to have to pay ££££'s for a service,

So Last call to all tech heads, HELP :x

More and more pissed by the day with this unit.
