Just curious what it is about the 60/3000 series that makes them waaaaaaaaaaaay less prone to crashing. I remember back when I used primarily a 2000 for production the damn thing would crash pretty frequently, especially if you runnin a 'quick fingers' maneuver. Oh and the damn sample input if you had it selected for 'digital' aka SPDIF and you didn't have a SPDIF source connected, the infamous freeze would occur without question.

Working with the 60 and the 3000 freezing is almost nonexistent. I think my 3000 has crashed once, MAYBE. The 60, as yet no way. I can even run a sequence, hits pads like a mad man and change screens and still- rock solid. What is it about Akai's newer stuff that it has these lame bugs, but stuff 10+ years going on 20 is more solid than that?? :? Anyway, what's you cats take on this, how's your 60 or 3000 been treatin ya in this regard? 8) 5000

Reliability is key.

Some of the reasons are code related, others are to do with the actual hardware design and layout choices.

In the simplest terms, everything it built to perfom at a price.

on a 60 one button = one function and one hit cancel the previous one , no cpu overflow ?

I think it's got to be that the 2000 has more multi function buttons, shift / numbers, and soft buttons, so everything is context related, so if you move too fast it might choke. Pluss they cut mad corners, it was desogned to be cheap compared to the 3000, and sometimes it shows.

I am not sure I understand the reason for the post and others like it. I can think of a lot better things to knock, namely Roland and Korg, Protools and Windows. The MPC2k is still an MPC.

I feel you on that MPC3000LE.

Upgrading Roland equipment is a hassle. Especially on the VSseries multitracks....

They ain't to user friendly either.

Yeah I guess in a sense, it bears the title 'MPC', but all that 2000 and beyond junk was made for this new era of Guitar Center music craze based consumerism. Cats hang out in them joints like a video game arcade now!! If you tried half that sh*t in the late 80's or early 90's, you'd get a swift kick out the door!! 2000's did not change the game like their predecessors, if anything they made it worse.

Anyway, it wasn't really a knock as really more an inquiry as to why. I believe Elmac. and 3KLE broke it down pretty good. Yeah more specialized buttons keep the CPU thinking to a minimum thus less freezing. And when sampling SPDIF on the sampling page with no SPDIF source present, the 2000 crashes EVERY time, that sh*t sucks no matter how you slice it, the 3000 don't do that at all.

The fact that Akai went from 2000 to XL in such a short period of time displays how they didn't really have it all together for the 2000 release IMO. They all do the job really, these companies are running scams now not making pro quality gear..I mean who's really spending any money on comprehensive R & D these days??. 8) 5000

Now that's harsh and innacurate. 3000 just wanted to stop a name calling match between felloww MPC users which is never good, the crash record is one thing, but there are pluses and minuses to each MPC, and everyone works out their preference.

honestly I would be making music with any MPC if it was the only one around, they all have a similar style about them and are more alike one another than like anything else. try the MV 8000 which is more like cubase on a 5 inch monitor than any MPC and you'll see what he means.

Why all this beef rap L.T.? some 2000 user mess with you or are you just remembering bad times and loving your 3k and 60?

...how's a cat with the title 'mpc3000' gon' come around and save the day for the 2000 every time it gets slammed  , just playin we should really all just be greatful that these powerful machines exist in the first place, pops has told me some tape splicing stories that sound like a headache and a half.

If you wanted to work with sound tape was a godsend. Id of done it too, if it was all I had.

As for SCSI Fuses, the 60 doesn;t have one (nor the 3000 IIRC) so if you hot swap and Fuk something up, you gotta get a new scsi board  !

My grandpops was a navy comm. tech. cat in the 40's and 50's. Pops was tellin me about how he would argue with grandpops about studio recording and live takes and grandpops was like...'no, they don't do it all live, they cut and paste the best parts and splice it together.'

Sounds like Grandad should have some good stories. Tape only came to the states after the war.
