HAHA, I was the winner, brilliant deal except the OS is messed up (see my other threads) But I am just putting that down to it being V 1.03, guy also threw in a 6gb Lacie external scsi HD, all boxed like new

Yup, tell me about it, don't know if the guy knew or not, I got it from his house, if it turns out he did know i'll ram the MPC down his throat.
I think it is only software related so surely can be fixed.

found a service mode I think on the MPC4000, hold down window+shift on startup different screen comes up, now my mac recognises the mpc, allows me to upload an OS, states its complete, reboot, same old boot block exception screen????
PC doesn't see the MPC at all still.
Akai will sell me a new CPU board.... $589

What a joke

so it's an LE with no HD. i've got the same model but i updated my OS with windows XP no problem.

forget any cats telling you to buy a new board right off.

you got this used?

if it's an LE chances are somebody opened it up and didn't know what they were doing. i'd return it to the seller and pick yourself up a brand new one. any decent dealer will take the unit back if you experience REAL problems with a REAL unit.

know what i'm saying?

sounds like you got a raw deal :x
