The MPC2000 and MPC2000xl have a scsi port on the back of the unit.
Even if you get one that has only a floppy drive, you could eventually get a Hard drive, cd drive, and a zip drive to connect to your scsi.

I run Two cd drives and a hard drive.

do a google search for wavs, samples sounds ect. Burn to a CD, and plug it in!

Both machines are more than capable to help you reach that higher level of "beat making". I would get the xl with the zip, and find ram on the internet and install it yourself. Once you get it you gotta practice and the beats will come.

you'll want to get the ram for your mpc. its for your internal sampling time. i forget how much sampling time the mpc ships with... something small like 10 seconds. with a couple of cheap sticks of ram you can blow that up to a few minutes!

whatever you do make sure you get one with 8 outputs. if you ever get to the point where you need to record in a studio you're going to need it. may as well cop it now. the studio plus version is the one with the 8 outputs AND the effect board isnt it? i dont know much about the effects board.

I would get the studio plus. Does the studio plus come with floppy, if so that's cool. The regular xl only comes with zip, am I reading into your post correctly? To upgrade the studio (w/flp) all you will need is the RAM and ZIP right? That's less than $100 if you look around.

To upgrade the regular XL (w/ ZIP), you will spend way more than $100 on getting an 8-out board and EB16. You feel me on that?

Both will need RAM unless you already got it installed. RAM is cheap.

Regular XL doesn't come with 8out, efx board and digital IO.
Your right, more efx and more ports..
