The only cats not using samples in the west anymore are the real real pop acts. And they are just trying to fit in with the commercial scene that is prevelant everywhere.

i disagree with that. alot of non-commercial producers produce from scratch aswel.

not that they dont sample, they surely do, but in most cases its a recreation of a sample.

i mean, me myself use alot of samples and i have to admit, sample based production isnt that complicated. or in other words it dosent have much originality to it. its more lyk remixing than producing.

aint nothing lyk creating your own drum patterns and playing your own melodys, etc. all being original. then you can REALLY say youve produced somthing.

Cats need to get off that fantasy island ideology stuff. Doing sh*t on principle will not save hip hop, and hip hop will not save the world. And for real as far as production goes, being able to compose music without samples actually gives you more options career wise, sampling does not.

While the above is true, Sampling you the abilty to create your own sounds that have a more distinctly "hip hop" sound. Replaying is good as well, but many times it doesn't recreate the same street feel of sample based record and comes out as a R n b Record with someone rapping on it! Also, many Producers have careers @ Sampling Because that's there Niche!

As Far as the Best West Coast Producers, RIGHT NOW,I gotta go with the Alchemist. He's one of the best in the game now in my opinion. I can't get in Rick Rock to much, hes just too "Bay Area" for me, but I respect what he does,and Freck Wreck is Butt Ash in my opinion,His overdriven synth sound hurts my ears!

I think no one is better than Dre East or West coast.Quik is a close 2nd on though the west though. I think because the Life style is different, the sound of Cali Hip Hop tends to more Melodic and Brighter. People out your way tend to spend more time in cars and out side so the Frequencies tend to be higher punchier as suspose to thing like Filter basslines and 12bit samples Etc,. A lot of cities on the East coast are Ugly,and life is fast pace so the production reflects that!!!
