Hello there. I am trying to upgrade my "MPC2000LX zipDrive" by adding a Addonics DigiDrive IDE card reader to it. I did all I can like making sure the jumper drive was set to "MASTER" and connecting the IDE ribbon and power cable correctly, but no luck. The OS is 1.1.4 which should still work and doubt that OS 1.2 will make a difference. Anyone who managed to work around this issue, please help me out??

I think you have the wrong drive man. As you can see on the second link above, AEIDEDMD4B is a black version of the IDE DigiDrive, not the Ultra DigiDrive (forget what it says at the top of the page). If you go down the page to the specifications table, you'll see under 'Interface' it has IDE. It needs to have IDE/ATAPI (Ultra DigiDrive) to work in the mpc.
If you boght it off them see what you can do about sending it back and getting atapi drive.

Yeah, that black model looks exactly like the one I ordered from another company that actually advertised it as bing ATAPI complaiant. It worked with any computer I threw it at, so I don't know why it didn't work, but my guess is that it was just IDE, not ATAPI and lied (or didn't know the difference). That description doesn't claim ATAPI on that link, so maybe thats the truth.

I've been holding off on the readers myself because I also wanted a black face one also. I have the SE3 model, and it would make it look stupid with a white drive! I believe one of the models out there had the option on the black face, but had huge white doors, so it would look even dumber. I might just have to bite the bullet and paint it myself. Anybody have any other suggestions on models? Everything today is made for USB so idiots can install them.

...No problems Soundjunky.

I remember someone on this board once posted something about akai selling the card readers as accessories. The card reader that comes installed in the new 2000XL-MCDs has a black face so if you're that keen to match it with your mpc, calling Akai and seeing what the deal is might be worth it. But be prepared to pay more than you would from Addonics, Amtron, etc.
Painting the front yourself might turn into a headache if you're a perfectionist.
BTW, the IISDMC from amtron.com looks to be exactly the same drive as the one Akai are installing on their new MPCs if thats any use to you. But they don't come in black as far as I know.

Yeah, I never buy parts from the manufacturer if I can get them myself. I'd be broke otherwise. I've had issues with paint before, but on a 3 1/2" drive, I probably wont be too picky (with the entire MPC, thats a different story). Even a crappy paint job will stand out less that white on black. Got tons of extra black paint from the desk I just built, might be my way to go.
