You should dig for some drum breaks and use the sounds in your ES for layering. You should also practice EQ and compression (the key factors to getting good sounding drums).

Don't know if I'm a "serious" beat maker, but...

Try writing a beat at a different tempo than you're used to.
I find I get in a rut if I always start freestyling my beats at 92 BPM.
I fall into the same habits, and get the same results.
Switch it up, and maybe it will inspire you in new ways.....even if you're using the same sounds.

Also, try listening to some new styles of music.....or at least some differents styles of hiphop. Not to bite, but to inspire you in new directions, or give you a couple ideas to use your own way.

truth...

everyone has good ideas really...

but since you have an es, you can very well come up with lots of shit, i have an fantomx, same principle really, never really **** around with my own sounds, other then making crazy ass wierd noises out of random samples, then multisampling it over the keys... you can come up with some crazy shit... spooky and crazy, or whatever...

worse comes to worse just look for new samples... Find drum loops, chop um.

I've been through a creative drought lately, and the best thing to do is just take a break from making music, and listen to different music, pink floyd dark side of moon, doors, wierd ass shit... sparks your mind..

oh and if everthing else fails. just call someone out for a battle, that always gets me going, and i come up with good shit...
