Tricky Decision

Hey all, my production is currently computer based, but I am soon combining it with hardware. The trouble is I can buy and MPC1000 or a MPC2000xl for the same price and from browsing the forum I noticed that it is easier to work with the 1000 especially with fruity loops. But with the 2000xl at the same price Im unsure what to do.

If you're already using the computer then I think the 1000 would be best for you. It has a USB port. Much more computer friendly.

i agree...but then i see you said your planning on adding hardware to your setup. what kind of hardware. but yea, if its mostly computer based, try the 1000...

Thanks for the advice, I was also wondering if i isntalled a multicard reader with a usb, would this work for the 2000xl?

How do you mean? USB Card reader on PC, internal card reader on MPC?
Easy to transfer files? Yup
As fas as direct USB? Obviously not.

Hmmm....Never seen one. Good question though. I'm really not sure if the 2000xl's OS can handle USB, even if its through ATAPI. Anyone?

There is atleast two easy ways to connect MPC2000XL to your computer. I put 6-in-1 ide/atapi card reader on it (yea, you need to have card reader on your computer too), but you can also buy scsi-usb cable if you are using internal hard drive.

get the 1k its really good..some might say they dont like it cause of the feel but i like it its good

Make sure you are aware of the 1k's limitations.
-It doesn't have time stretch.
-It doesn't have zoning
-It can only sync via midi time code
-It does not have as many individual outputs as the other mpc's.

These are the major limitations. The zoning thing isn't a big deal once you learn how to work the extract feature well. Also you can use a software program to do all you sample editing with ease because of the usb port.

People, can we put this to bed..... the usb on the 1000 is ONLY good for file transfer. you can use any MPC with the computer (reason, FL, alberton, etc...) via midi.

the usb carries the same concept as all other mpc's drives. the 2/xl/3000 has either floppy drive or support for scsi device to do the same thing.... manage files. the only differences with the 1000 are the ability to store up to 2gbs and easier file managability between the unit and your computer.... that's all nothing else. the mpc 1000 is not, i repeat, is not a usb device in the sense to connect other devices to. it's a slave port not a host port.

anyone hook up the 2kxl directly to the comp using this??????

i mean from a physical standpoint they should connect but what about drivers to id the mpc??????

I don't think this would work just because both the MPC and the PC are host devices. Like, you can't hook up two PC's with SCSI (as far as I know), and I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that you can't (or it isn't recommended, at least) to hook up ypur MPC to a PC via SCSI, either.
