Compared to the mpc the efx rock. I always think roland efx are 'lush' or rich sounding. The efx are also really hands on...you can twist knobs and get all kinds of crazy sounds from a sample.
U can save samples as wav or aif files for the mpc, or loading into computer...but first you have to export them onto the CF card. So you sample into the 404, apply efx and then use the export function.
I've been trying out the built in mike...pretty good for laying down quick stuff. You can sample with efx. I chucked in a 32mb card and sampled a 2min song of me playing guitar and singing. There is a tiny digital 'hum' the mic picks up when you turn up the sample input gain a lot....but overall not bad. Haven't tried the external mike input yet.
I'm going to be taking the train a lot soon and i'm gonna use this to lay down beats and sample things in the street etc. Also gonna use it alongside my mpc for efx and a different feel.
Sample editing (start and end points) is a bit strange and takes a bit of getting used to (everything is based of the bpm of the sample). It's a little primitive but works ok.
It's very similar to the sp-303 workflow wise.... just with a lot more features.
Its got RCA outputs...
