2000XL's Digital I/O won't work with my Mbox Digital I/O!?!?

ok i've already posted this question on a couple other boards, and to no avail.... i'm trying to record digitally from my 2000XL into my Mbox and pro tools won't recognize the signal. i did some troubleshooting already: went digitally from my cd player into the Mbox and it worked fine. went digitally from the MPC into my minidisc recorder and that worked fine too. so now i know there's nothing wrong with the mpc's digital out, and there's nothing wrong with the Mbox's digital in. they just won't work together. so what could the problem be? is the digital out on the MPC not the same format as the mbox (S\PDIF) or something like that? is S\PDIF an option i have to get installed on my mpc? i'm all out of ideas here and this is frustrating me half to death. sometimes i wanna tweak samples on my computer before loading them into the mpc and i don't wanna lose quality every time i do so. not to mention i don't wanna lose quality every time i go to track a beat in pro tools.

before anyone asks, i'm positive i have the i/o options in pro tools set correctly, cuz like i said, i recorded from my cd player's digital out and it worked great.

so anyone got any ideas? i'd really appreciate any help i can get at this point.

i think the mpc only outputs at 44.1khz you may have to change the spdif setting on the mbox from 48khz, not to sure. but i did get it working once into my computer.

ps what sort of lead did you use to record to mididisk. i have a
coax-digital <-[2]-> 1/8 jack.

I also think this might be down to the frequency, & the MPC is only at 44.1khz.

Is your MPC 8 outs board the Akai one or the MUTEC one? The Akai one is definately S/PDIF but the MUTEC one is AES/EBU, & is on a standard 1/4" jack, not an RCA phono connector.

Don't forget there are other ways to transfer samples from computer to MPC & vice-versa.

Sorry for opening an old thread, but I have the same problem.
I can sample from ProTools/Mbox via Digital Coax, but I can't record MPC outputs in ProTools.

I have 16bit/44kHz project, tried clocking Internal and S/PDIF. I use 75 Ohm cable. I can sample with MPC without any problem, but can't get it work the opposite way.

Has anyone succesfully managed to record MPC's digital out through MBox digital in? If so, how?

I'm still wondering if anyone ever go this working. I sure haven't.

Funny how no one in this thread who had the problem ever stated teh settings they tried to use on the MPC and Mbox.

Well from what I understand, the MPC is supposed to send audio through the digital out no matter what. And in PT I just set the I/O to Spdif and that should be that. The Mbox accepts digital from other devices with no problem.


The setup I was using was:
Mac G4 400 w. 1.2gb ram.
1 250 GB firewire System Drive
80 gb Audio Drive
Mac OS X 10.4.3
MBox w/ Pro Tools LE 6.9.
MPC 2000xl

I want to record via 's/pdif digital out' on my MPC2k classic to the 's/pdif digital in' on my MBox. I can't seem to do it. It will work the other way, though (i.e. sampling through the 'digital in' on my MPC). What gives? Nobody seemed to have an answer before.

I'm keeping it 44.1khz 16-bit. It still don't wanna work!

did you set the tracks to record from digital input?

did you happen to set protools to sync to external SPDIF input??

its not the hardware, its the software settings you have wrong.

also, are you using a actual spdif cable? its not a RCA cable it just looks like one.

There's definetly some funky sh!t going on with those digital outputs. I have the MPC2k with the EXACT same problem. I can record IN to my MPC but no signal goes out. I'm using the Firepod, and logic 7.2. I've done the same stuff with a CD player without issue. And I'm using digital cables.
I gave up on it about 6 months ago.
