I'm new to the PC software thing. What is a decent wave editor to use in combo with my 2000XL? I want to spruce up my samples a bit. Cool Edit ? Sound Forge ? Looking for ease of use, power, flexibility, features. I also need a decent sound card. Doesn't have to be top of the line as long as it sounds good and works well when transfering samples between the MPC and PC. Any suggestions would be greatly wecolmed. Thanx.

Sound Forge and Adobe Audtion are excellent. Cool Edit no longer exists. Adobe bought the product and turned it into Audtion. ReCycle is a good beat editor that is not too expensive. If you want to begin with something simple, buy ReCycle first. Then you can reseach the other two while you are using ReCycle.

I would not recommend buying Recycle first. It does not even record samples, it only chops, so on it's own it's use is pretty limited.
Since you just want to **** with your samples a bit i suggest you buy either Soundforge or Wavelab. They pretty much do the same thing. You can use vst effects in both, a powerfull way of changing your samples.
Since you probably want to record your finished tracks at some point, i would save up some money to buy a good soundcard later.
you say you want to transfer your samples trough your soundcard, that doesn't sound like a great idea to me. It will be a lot of work to resample them everytime, and they will lose some quality no matter how good you soundcard is.
I would stick with a standard pc soundcard for now, and buy a usb zipdrive instead (and an internal zip for your mpc too).
