Disk drive problems Please help!!

Basically I've got an mpc2000 and I'm getting major stress from the disk drive and if anyone has had a similar problem I'd like to know what they did as I'm close to burnin the studio down!
First of all the floppy drive started to not recognise anything other than the power up disk so I lost about four years worth of arrangements. Then I hooked it up to a zip drive and saved my arrangements there no prob until now, It will let me save my arrangements but when I try and load them back up it wont do it, it shows them on the disk but freezes when it trys to load it.
Please help!

Ok, just started looking thru this site and realised this subject has come up a lot! It's just weird that it will still save and show the arrangements on the disk but wont load them. Would the best thing be to get an internal Zip drive? or do they create problems aswell? (and can an internal zip be fitted to a 2000?)

why would you leave 4 years of work on a zip?

it would have been best if had backed up your tracks on pc.... and burn at least 3 copies on cd.... just in case... worse comes to worse......

...for me... i expect zip problems... so thats why i only have one beat iam working with on a zip at a time....i'll work on a beat... backup my saved work every 7-10 sequences or so...

seriously... i dont think its the zip disk or the drive.... iam thinking that its more of a situation where the mpc os corrupts the data on its own... akai claims that its fixed the situation... but it still occurs... try reloading your os with a different disk...

thanks for your tips, my problem is that i use a mac with no scsi (its a laptop) so i dont have any back up options, I was naive on the back up tip because I was storing my arrangements on floppy for years with no problem until it messed up. I'm not bothered about losing them as I'd already released the ones that I wanted to, but now I'm screwing cos I need to write some new stuff but its a waste of time when i cant load it up the next day. I really dont want to get rid of the 2000 but I dont know what other options I have.

also what do you mean by loading the o.s from another disk? I have version 1.7 on a floppy but thats all.

Download the OS again and re-install I would say. You should REALLY find a way to back up your stuff though.

do you think that would sort it? My next problem is my comp doesnt have a floppy drive! damn i'm lame, I'll try and find someone with the floppy technology. Is it on Akai.com?

P.S this site is dope and super helpful, I'm sorry that my first post has been me being a whiney **** about my zip drive! I'll let you know if the os thing works tomorrow.

Your OS disk might be corrupt. Yeah, you can download the OS
and put it on another disk and it might help.

last pain in the ass question! where can i find the o.s? just searched on google and it didn't come up with the goods and i went to akai.com and it had a bunch of t.v's and radios!!!!

I tried the new OS but unfortunately that hasnt solved the problem, guess I'm gonna have to see if my local shop can fix it, this should be a long drawn out saga!

It could be a bad ZIP disk or a bad ZIP drive possibly.

just got it fixed, it was the SCSI fuse, thanks for all your help tho, it's much appreciated.

How did the scsi fuse mess up/interfere with the floppy operation at the beginning of the problem?
