bpm match???

How do you actually find out the tempo of an waveform. I downloaded a drumtrack with 90 bpm to find out if the mpc tells me the correct bpm. Unfortunately it gave me wrong information.

These are the formulas for figuring out the tempo of loops and songs.

1 beat per second = 60 bpm.
bpm = 60/1 beat (in seconds).
1 measure (in seconds) = 4x1 beat (in seconds).
1 bar in seconds = 240/bpm.

For example, if you have a 1 bar loop that is 2.553 seconds long then the bpm would be 94, 240/2.553=94. It's all just basic algebra.

If you have software like soundforge you can open up the wav in there and it will tell you the length of the wav in seconds in the bottom right corner or you can just right click the file and click on the details tab and it will tell you the length of the wav. It should be 2.666 seconds long for the tempo to be 90 bpm if it's a one bar loop, if it's longer then one bar then just do the math.

Of course if the loop points aren't set correctly then you'll have a hard time getting the right bpm.

Or you can do it the lazy way (my way).

I think tonight I will start a VERY useful topic on these boards which I think is missing, I'll start when I get home.

....in the past if ive got a sample ive cut up to the exact length of 1 bar or whatever...basically so it can loop on its own....to get it to fit with the sequence im writing ill open up the loop window, select the whole waveform, turn loop on.....then open the paramters screen....set the bar length to what it should be...and then use the tuning on the right hand side to get the sample into tempo.....sometimes the tempo wont be exact so you have to change you sequence tempo by say +0.2bmp but usually works pretty well....i know this is rudimentary stuff but it sound like some people may have missed this nifty display....
