Roland VS 2400 workstation question

Trying to go from making beats to making whole tracks (I'm a lyricist at heart) for myself and potentially for others in the area.

Does anybody own this equipment and if so, tell me your experiences with it, trying to get some feedback before I throw my life savings into this machine.

Also, if I have this will I need to buy that Protools or Fruity Loops or any of that other stuff???? ANy help would be appreciated.

If you have a computer with the specs enough to handle protools I would suggest getting a used digi 001 protools rig off of ebay. They are around $550 and they are plug and play (meaning you can use it out of the box).

I have owned a vs 880 and 1880 and was considering upgrading to a 2400 or 2480 until I got this cool toy. Plus if you don't feel like mixing you can just send you protools file to a studio on a disk and boom (more Colab Work by mail even) !!!!

Now on the other hand if you need to be moble get the 2400 or get a 1824/1880 like I have... 18 tracks recorder with plenty vutual tracks... it's about $6~$750 dollars on ebay and worth it.....

And if you just want the sliders and button feel get that 2400... it has automation...and wav export I think. my 1880 doesn't.

It's really depends on how you feel.... And even if you get these Items I think it's always good to have an additional wave editor to master your mixes with... I like WaV Lab 3.0 ( edit my 2 track masters) .... and Cool edit (edit my samples).

A roland Vs is portable, I've been to hell and back with mine... I'm still testing protools but I like what I see.... and I think Protools will be used exclusively for my next project so I will make my final decision then.

I agree mostly with everything Leroy said. Pretty much if you have the money to spend I would go with A good/fast computer and a digi 002. If not just get the computer and a used 001. I have digi001 and had a 1680/880 and it seem like a whole new world opened up when I switched. I mean you can get good quality with the VS stuff, but you can get amzing results with your computer , a soundcard and software . Even if you don't go the Pro tools route there is always CubaseSX or Sonar. Even Cool Edit. With the computer you have so many more options, but also can encounter so many more problems. But that can be avoided with a little research. If you are interested in Protools then check out the Digidesign user conference on Digi's web site. This is where you can get most of the help for building a recommended Protools computer. If you wanna go with Cubase or whatever, almost everyone has a forum to ask questions on. Just Do your research and make your own judgement cause a lot of people have already decided what they like and are opinionated. I say to each his own. Good luck

I like sonar 2.0 and protools but... I am not a fan of cubase... I can't spek for the SX edition... I had 5.0.

I have a super fast PC just for music and cubase latency problems were still just to much for me to overcome. Sonar and Protools were both plug and play... And I still have them both... plus wav lab 3.0 and cool edit.

Yeah Leroy , Cubase SX is a whole different monster than that vst5.0. I tried it then before and I hated it. It is like so much better I can't explain. I really don't like sonar/cakewalk. Before sx I was like Protools all the way, but after Sx I was like they might be able to hang with Protools. You should check it out. The latency is caused mostly by the sound card an its driver so you should check into that. Yeah and if your Pc is a Fast Beast you will Love Sx, but I can never give up Protools.

I use to have an echo darla.... crapola.... I ended up selling it with cubase 5.0 and buying protools.

I also purchased a delta 66 just for computer sampling and such...

I will give that SX a try...

Yeah. You can cop Digi 001 real cheap these days since the Digi 002 is out. I got really lucky. I got my Digi for $450, I think. I started with Cool Edit Pro but moved on to Pro Tools. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. It's really up to the person using it.
