3000....how do u use yours?

yeah max I do the same thing with the SP1200 and MPC3000. I find that the SP just has a funk to its sequencer... The MPC3000 is FAR superior as a general sequencer since that's a main part of its purpose -- but for drums, the SP is the lick (can I say that anymore?).

Word. Careful with that type of stuff. I'm sure a lot of the producers you dig are using computer editing like ProTools to track their beats. I'm sure a lot of the music you even like was edited on computers (drum machines are computers remember, just dedicated ones).

Computer editing is very flexible and convenient (though I dig the sound of analogue more). So don't be quick to make snap judgements like that.

My man Drumat!c being all misinterpreted. Me and Drum go back a ways. I remember when I was tellin him about the S6000, he asked me if it was like the 950, I said "nah, it's 16 bit, has like an hour of sampling time, 16 outs" to which he responded "wow, that's real gay" and i laughed, but in a way he's right, I like my 12 bit samplers better, and as I was saying in this thread, I think the whole flexibility of the computer thing is a double edged sword, and I think making final decisions may be a healthy way to work.

There's only one way to interpret what he said. If he didn't want to be "misinterpreted" he would have expanded on what he said rather than writing something baseless and childish.

Attitudes like that are why people diss underground heads (or backpackers as they're so commonly referred). A lot of backwards thinking and "keep it real (which died in 96)" nerd talk.

Shoot, I'm sure there are real musicians out there that would say that your 12 bit samplers are "gay". They would ask: "Why don't you learn how to play instruments rather than stealing other people's work?" (whether it's stolen in 12 bit or 16bit)

I rock 12 bit samplers myself but that's not the point. The point is that you have to think twice about everything you say or you'll end up with your foot in your mouth much too often. After you have thought twice, explain your thoughts clearly and adequately.

Isn't that "gay" thing supposed to be humor? In any event it's hardly a personal attack...it's gear we're talking about. The fact that it's baseless makes it humoristic on its face and I really don't see how it could be interpreted in any other way. Or perhaps my sense of humor is twisted.

Ease up fellas.....it was just a joke.....for real.....i was just poking fun. I know many people that use computer editing and it facilitates 90% of the vocal track mixdown process.

But making beats on computer is not for me. Computers have damn near ruined hiphop. They are a fantastic tool for those of you all that can't afford the rugged gear, but eventually you gotta fold and opt for something physical.

I am a musician.....I play drums and am learning to play my AX-73 analog synth.....and last time I checked....drum machines were considered instruments as well as Turntables, as i'm also a DJ.

According to the following definitions, I qualify as a musician and I do play an instrument (mpc-60).

Do I sense a discrepancy?

I'm not with composing music on the computer either. I started out that way but I hated the sh*t. It just felt...wack. Since I started buying gear my stuff moved to the next level and even sounded more official.

However I do use the computer to track my beats. It's just the best way to do it since I have the cd burner right there, some powerful programs for sound processing and mad routing options.

But it's cool, no beef here. Just makin sure the quality of this board stays up there. Afterall, this is the spot other MPC cats jock.

i agree, computer editing is for gays. thats actually exactly how i would have put it, too. im quite happy that the computer is mostly out of my workflow.
