Dre Dre synthesizer thingie

Ok i know how to assign the NV slider to change the key of a note... but for something that is long or looped i want to change the key of it LIVE... sorta like the way a pitch wheel works on a midi keyboard... is this possible? i dont like having to keep pressing pad over and over and over ... and over... i was thinking about faking it, by messing with the attack and decay so it kinda sounds like all one sound but it sounds nothing like that dre synth nonsense....


I bet he uses an actual synth lol... if that is the answer just delete this post and slap me around a couple.

you could record what your are doing with the fader and then sample what you've recorded!

well i knew you could do that, but is it possible to transpose as you go instead of having to hit the button again after you move the NV slider.

can't you set it to the pad, click the AFTER button above it and whilve the sequence is playing, slide the slider and hear the pad affected as you play? I havent used it in a while, but I thought thats what it was mainly for...

nv slider doesnt work that way, I was gonna suggest inserting pitch bend info but I tried it and it didnt work so Im not sure how to do this on the MPC.

Just curious, what is Dre's "pith bend thingy", coulkd you name a track for reference

The slider doesn't affect tuning? Yes it does

let me rephrase, the nv slider doesnt work in real time the way he wants to use it.

He wants to use it to bend the pitch in real time, while setting up the slider to control the tuning will allow you to change the tuning/pitch of the sample for every time a note is triggered you cant control it after the note is triggered which is what he wants to do.

Ohhh, right. I didn't realize he wanted to tweak the tuning while the sample was played, just play it at different tuings throughout the song, my bad.

im talking about the style of the loud ass Synthesizer in Dr Dre - High Powered in the intro.... that style

or on nothin but a g thang.... Is it possible to do this with an MPC2kXL?

i pretty much want to hold down a pad, and slide the slider and hear the note change without letting go of the pad.

its called portamento and as far as know it cant be done on the MPC

i used to do what your talkin about (in a sense) on my classic 2k


say i wanted to do that with a real electronic type sound, i would first loop a very very small portion of that sound, then i set the nv slider to tuning, or filter works great with this trick. aight, whats your bpm? because if your messing with doubling your bmp to double you resolution, this works even better. So the bpm is at 180 lets say. Set your quantize to 1/32 or 1/32(3). Start recording with a finger on the pad, a finger on the note repeat button and fingers on the slider. as your holding the pad and the note repeat, and messing with the slider, live in record mode, its playing the loop back how you messed with the slider.


or you dont loop it and you set it to mono, and then whenever you let go of the pad, the full sample plays.

Oh shit, i guess that would work. but my fingers arent huge enough but ill figure out a way to do that.... ill just use one finger on my left hand on the tap tempo button and the other on the slider.... or my elbow on the pad and right finger on the tap tempo pad.... or a digital camera on top of the pad or some shit like that.
