yes I know the trick and i'm not telling anyone because it is a reward for those who know and love the machine, if you explore your machines they will teach you. I don;t even have an SP but through the emax i figured it out.

Im not familiar with the SP but I know lower bit rate = more sample time and less space taken on the MPC products.. more recording time is the trick your lookin for right? Your makin me want to pick up an SP just to phuck with it now..

If i'm not misstaken the MPC3000 and MPC2000 can read 11 and 22khz wav files. (or was it only the MPC2000 that can handle that sample rates?).
As the 3000 don't read wav U have to convert it to SND files.

Anyway, as i know the SP only handles one sample rate. And if i'm not wrong it uses a floating bit technic between 12 and 8 bit when U pitch the sounds.(i not really sure about this)
the classic way on the SP to save memory is to pitch up the sound source and then pitch it down on the SP to the orginal pitch.
But this still only give U 10 sec sampling time. (that's the limit of the SP)
But Pete Rock found a way to trick the SP to deliver 12 sec of sampling time.

Depending on the pitching limitations of the SP you can always get one of the new techics turntables that plays at 78rpm and that should get you some more time. Besides that I would just split up my sample into two parts and put them on seperate pads. To bad there isnt some way to rig the hardware. See if you can read up on the interal architecture of the SP so you can see how it records maybe there is way to bypass the internal ram, add more, or somehow record onto its flash rom where the os is stored for extra memory.

The SP can't pitch down that much

What if you just pitch a 78rpm sample down so it fits within the 10 second limit for resampling and then pitch it down again so you can stretch it all the way out. You might be able to do this by saving a sample and repitching too.
