Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By sammyb90 Sun Sep 04, 2005 9:05 pm
Just got my first MPC (2000xl), and im really happy with it. Dont know why i wasted years with Cubase. Anyway, i have a scsi zip drive hooked up to the MPC (got a USB one for the computer to use MPC editor) - and it only seems to format the first 29mbs of a 100mb zip disk. Has anyone else experienced this. Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

when you are in the format screen (manual pg 154) Make sure the indicator next to PARTS is set to A-A. Otherwise you will format your zip disk in multiple small partitions.

followed the instructions in the manual (pretty sure i did before). Now it wont format the drive, and has made the zip unreadable in XP. Do you think i might have a bad drive or is something up with the xl?

A zip disk formatted on an mpc (1.14) is not readable under windows XP. What doe you mean with it won't format ? Do you get error messages ?

I think you will find that if you update the MPC to OS1.20 and use the MPC to format the disks then this issue will go away.

Well i tried another disk, and it seemed to format it ok with 99mb showing free, also can save and load programs. Im seeing that i cant see things it in XP - just wont recognise it at all.

Where do i get os 1.20 from...

beware with os 1.20 some older models of internal zipdrives stopped working when the user updated to os1.20.

"beware with os 1.20 some older models of internal zipdrives stopped working when the user updated to os1.20."

That was actaully a problem with 1.08, 1.10, 1.11, 1.12, and 1.14 also. There is plenty about this in the archives. It does not appear to specifically related to the OS version but rather when the update was using the ATAPI connection. I think I restored mine to working OK when I used floppy or SCSI to update.
