Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I want to know how to copy MPC files from floppy on to the PC. The file names are altered and are shortened,when they are moved over, meanimg that they can not all be copied. A dialogue box comes up and says, do u want to replace files, because of the names are shortened.

:x :cry:

Did you format the floppy disk using your MPC? If so sometimes the PC does not recognize them. Are u trying to save the sequences or the programs to your hard drive ? Cause with MPC Editor V3 u can open Programs in there and then save from there.

let me know what happens.

formatting the floppy isnt the problem. Its that the mpc names the files different to the pc does, and when viewing them on a PC, the names within the same song sile appear to be the same, and so when you copy and paste, it would say do you want to replace these files.

you cant name your sounds ridiculously long names because once they go into the mpc, it shortens them into a format it can recognize (or something). so name your files something short. like one word and maybe a number. (i.e. hihat1, kick1, snare2, etc..). that usually works for me. but if the mpc is saying do you want to replace the file, just rename it something else.

Once again,i gotta agree with Smoove.Just rename it but make sure you keep the name under 7 characters.Well seven or less.The mpc tends to get a little picky when it comes to name files.

well the thing is, its not pc to mpc, its moving song files to pc. I wont be able to rename the files if the song file is looking for a particular name. You can name the sequencies longer than 7 characters within the mpc though, the sample names are noe really important to me, just the song files.

Thank you all for replying :wink:
