Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By genvagen Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:37 am
My main scsi harddrive went down today. Its probaby the writearm that poped since its not booting up, just clicking. and that should be good cause hopefully the datas ok then. but now I have this company that say they can probably recover it for 500euros, 100 if it fails, and I need to know the filesystem so they dont recover the data with xp and it **** up all the files anyway. Help appreciated, I am this close to crapping my pants right now.

Well, what MPC do you have and what OS are you running?

"I need to know the filesystem"

There are about three people in the world that know the MPC filesystem and I do not think any of them are willing to give it up. I feel really bad about the data but that is what backups are for.

There may be one big problem with your request. It does not seem to match the problem. If they cannot read the drive, there is nothing that the file format is going to do for them. If you can read the drive, then I can recover it for you for a lot less than 500 euros. My most expensive data Akai data recovery to date was 200 USD, which is a LOT less than 500 euros.

there is nothing wrong with the data as I indicatet with "writearm poped off", but since it can't read or write anymore they basically need to assemble and rebuild a new drive with the discs from the broken one and that cost cash(if you dont pay for american ignorance quality that is). and they do need to know a compatible filesystem so they dont recover the data with windows xp and it's all for nothing. but thank you for all the help.

ahh yes m.ic procrusher: 2000xl os 1.14, you got any idea?

Again, there is a problem with their request. If they can rebuild a drive then they do not need file format since you can just re-attach the re-built drive to MPC.

it doesn't work like that since it for obvius reasons is easier for them to have equipment where they place the discs from the broken hd read it of, burn data to cd and then throw away the discs. its not really the easy way to go to build a hd for each customer, and it wouldn't be the cheap way either. but I mean **** it, it's like the good ol saying "to argue over the internet is like...."

"burn data to cd and then throw away the discs"

Again, to do this does not requiring knowing the file system. The MPC can simply read the CD's.

I am just pointing out the problems in the request from the "so called experts" that charge 5 times more than me (who has a proven history of Akai data recoveries).

We eagerly await for you to change the story, again.

if you read of the discs with xp then you are pretty certain not to get any usable files. period. again, you look like a lady's private parts.

and by the way, in what way does clarifying mean "change the story", it's you who need to go on some retorical crusade grasping for straws and I who for some reason continues to answer someone whos obviusly only in it to argue. but thats 15year old kvasi-intellectuals and the internet 101.

You can make a copy of the disk without knowing the filesystem...

And for your information, mpc3000 knows a lot about mpc's, he even designed a OS...

G, from what I've read (and I've read this thread thoroughly before
replying) you need to chill big man, 3K gave you a str8 answer dude
why can't you ACCEPT that? No one is going to tell you what you WANT to hear, someone in the know will most likely give you a REAL to life answer ya dig?

IE, go ahead and let them rebuild your drive with your original disks and a new write/read arm. Do you STILL need to know the format after that?
Couldn't you just connect that rebuilt drive right back onto your MPC and it would work fine because the platter was fine, they just replaced the arm correct? So, my question is WHY can't you see the logic in 3k's answer dude?

Be rational and stop hatin. BTW, I can read my 2kxl sample files in my Win XP just fine and transfer back and forth all day, so what are you sayin?

Member "TRUE" ... nice name :-)

Indeed ... you can copy the disk without knowing the file system.

Member "MPC3000LE" "designed a OS" for the MPC3000.

Member "MPC3000" kindly hosts the download link for same at his website: www.mpc3000.com

Member "MPC3000" also designed many cool editing apps for the MPC line.

All of what Member "MPC3000" says here in this thread is true.

Message for member "GENVAGEN" ... believe what member "MPC3000" is saying... MPC data recovery is a specialty of his.

Two of the only three people in the world who recover data for MPC hard drives are now watching this thread.

You do not need to know the file system to recover the data if only the head mechanism of your drive has become stuck.

Get CONVAR DATENSYSTEM in Germany to do a raw image recovery from your broken drive to a new one.

The FILESYSTEM will most likely be in one piece.

If when your data is recovered the FILESYSTEM needs some repair then maybe the services of certain list members will be available to you and your cause ... maybe.

Rohan.

Take you hard drive to the Electronics Engineering program at your nearest college university.

We at the forums are fortunate to have cats with this knowledge around us and in good form.
