Call me a hater then for thinkin its lame not to dig for your own records. This is just my personal opinoin.

lame? but not nessecarily a bad tune no? thinking the process was lame doesn't nessecarily mean you think the song is bad, plus how do you really know who dug the sample? may have been a producer friend who found the sample but couldn't do anything with it so let someone else have it- the industry is full of those stories-
i dont know how you work metafor so dont take these comments as written specifically for you....
if you are going to get so anal about original samples you shouldn't rely on preset machines like the triton or motif, or at least program them so they are original (in line with the sample- like originality matters!?!?!?!)- cant understand why there aren't more hiphop producers using huge multisample sets so they have truly unique keys, horns etc etc
if its all about process to you you should essentially be tweaking those samples so they you are not just 'looping up those played out hits...'
a very wierd mentality is abound in some parts of the hiphop circle....a couple of camps it seems
hiphop producers- guys who love the genre, its influences, have a desire to express themselves through that art form and will do as much as possible to ensure they know how they can express themselves most effectively
crate diggers- guys who spend more time digging than composing, vilify any producer who uses and already used sample (even if they were unaware it was already used), will only used sampled elements in their songs YET consider those who don't to be somehow unauthentic....hiphop may be built on sampling but the genre has evolved...weird thing is- if everyone in hiphop was a digger there would be less tracks to use left- therefore more room for 'wackness'.....sparks an old philosophical question; if a techno producer uses a sample does that mean a hiphop producer can use the sample and not be wack? or are you only wack if you resample within your own genre?....begins to sound a bit silly.....
keyboard fiddlers- guys who have their hip-pop checklists out when buying gear-
mpc- check
drum samples- check
keyboard with presets that flood a genre already oversaturated with those said presets- check
can i make money?- check
its like i can only sound like a small number of mainstream hiphop producers so i will limit myself to those exact instruments...
the last camp:
haterz- we all know they aint relaly worth analysing so i wont- read: kids with complexes.....
of course i see the majority of forum members i know as the first definition (unless of course i know they don't do hiphop- in which case none of the above apply);
there are some cats here who have missed the point and are definite diggers (they are the ones who will laugh at dj shadow liner notes) and then those who want what their fave artist has so they can emulate and make money like they do and not care about the artistic merit of what they do (forum members can tell these types from their post titles);
then there are many peeps who seems to straddle all camps...they get anal about digging but are more than happy to use presets or whatever- they are the truly messed up cats- but i begin to suspect that they are like the haters- they dont like anything that they themselves don't already do...
what a rant! but i truly find thiphop production unique its varying morals or values..
