PROBLEM recording song from 2kxl to PC

ok ive got a song on my mpc 2000xl and ive plugged it into the computer and recorded the song in Wavelab.

when i listen to the recording from the computer, all my levels sound off.....esp my bassline which is seriously lacking in volume. in general, the song sounds more hollow than when i listen to it through the mpc.

any idea whats goin on here?

You listen to it on different monitors or what? Is there some type of EQ'ing going on in your computer that is affecting the output? Up the bassline in the mixer of the MPC or change the resonance on the bass to like 3-7 and bring down the filter (shift 6, params). Maybe some of this will help..

What kind of sound card are you using? If the bass is sounding kinda of funny than you are probably having some type of phase cancellaton of the signal. It could be the way you have the cables hooked up, the cables, mixer or anything in the path between the MPC and PC. I would try swappng cables and see if that sovles the problem. Pretty much check your signal path. Hope this helps.

lampdog.....what do you mean "different monitors"?...i havnt played with ANY of the EQ on the PC. i was going to correct my levels on the mpc mixer as you suggested but i dont want to have to do this every time i wanna record a song. ispens so much time on the mpc getting it right i dont want to be redoing my levels all over again each time ...na mean?

platinum1.....im using brand new cables. mpc output tp pc input.

I meant do you use headphones to make the song on the MPC then playback via monitors on the PC? You know 2 different sets of speakers or something that would have a different sound?

Sounds like it's a cheap soundcard. What type/model is it?
And make sure you record at least 16bit 44000 khz.
Check your levels, recording at low volume and then increasing the gain in Wavelab will not sound too good either.

lampdog: im the same headphones for both. i when i listen from the computer, i plug the headphones into the headphone jack locaten on the pc speakers. this shouldnt make a difference right?

ieism: i dont know anything about my soundcard so ill have to check that.
i am recording at 16bit 44000 khz. im not messing with gain on wavelab either.

Do you have a headphone jack on your sound card, try that. Maybe it's the pc speakers amplifier that is makin sound like that, don't plug it in that spot. Is there anywhere else you can plug your headphones
up and compare the sound?

no effects are going on in my computer. ive checked all the input levels on the pc and they are all equal. all effects are OFF in wavlab.

it makes no difference if i plug my headphones into the pc speakers or the pcs output. it has the same effect.

alll my sounds (kick, snair, bass etc) are all out of wack and dont sound like they do through the headphones on the mpc.

ontop of that, the L and R channels on the pc are not being recorded at the same levels. i try to manually correct it but it is a hassle and i cant get it perfect

any more ideas?

this is REALLY pissing me off cos all my music is stuck on my mpc cos i dont wanna show poeple my music f it has not been recorded the way i programmed it

Are you recording into your computer via a mixer or just the MPC? If you are using a mixer and have your computer routed to the same mixer this could give you a signal loop which peoduces the same effect you mentioned. Just a couple more suggestions. Even if it doesn't solve your problem perhaps it can help someone else with a similar question.

Firstly, this shouldn't happen....what kind of sound card do you have.?

If you don't know what kind it is then the chances are its a pretty crap one....!!!! I know on certain SBlaser cards there are built in efx like surround, delay, reverb stadium, which could have been inadvertently enabled.

If you are serious go and cop a M-Audio AudioPhile 2496 its possibly the best quality for the money...and every thing comming out of your PC will sound wicked....(cop a little mixer too which is gonna help with monitoring)

Secondly, You need to have decent cables for recording and make sure your connections are solid...

my soundcard is the stock standard thing which comes with the computer. my mate reckons it isnt even a soudcard but something else which produces sound

so i suppose im gonna have to buy a soundcard. ****......i was kinda hoping i wouldnt have to spend any more money after getting my mpc.
