Anyway to get around the 32 MB MAX Ram on 2000XL MCD?

Nor should an MPC be used for anything more than short snippets. Typical vocal recording is part of the multitrack process, not sampling process.

Some samplers tend to blur the distinction between sampler playback and multitrack playback by allowing streaming from disk, but is likely to be far beyond anyone's hopes and dreams here.

I don't think I've ever used more than 8mb or so on a single beat, and many of my beats are half that. And that's with the whole track (beats, samples) coming out of the MPC. I must say I do use the 45rpm trick about half the time, because I think it sounds nice and it speeds up waveform drawing and save/load times.

It's obvious giggasean has been convinced by marketing hype before he knew how much 32mb or 128mb actually is in practical terms. He just assumed 'more is better' - and if 128mb is the 'standard' now, then 32mb doesn't sound like a lot. Trust us Sean, it is.

By the way, on the MPC2500 you might actually have a use for 128mb. With the 'continuous sample track' and 'sample while sequence runs' feature you could get some basic hard-disk recording and record cuts or vocals straight into the MPC. Then again, if the continuous track is straight to disk recording than you wouldn't even need the ram, unless you want to fck with the audio in sample form later.

Oh, and to answer Sean's first question: yes there is a way to get around the 32mb max ram on the 2000xl. You could get the (hideously expensive) 8mb Flash Ram card and have 40mb of samples to work with (woo-hoo!). And I've read in Sound on Sound that Herbie Hancock's drummer on tour had his 2000xl modified to take 64mb. Must have cost him more than a second MPC, but I guess when you're touring with Herbie, you want to come correct!

Ya need to start trimming down and editing those samples or make some of 'em mono.

I think the memory expansion is from the stock 2 mb to 32 mb of adding memory sticks. What a rip off!

Sample to big?, play it in FAST then slow it down on the MPC.
Sample in MONO,
Trim only wat you need.
Damn I barely even have to do that stuff, I even run chorus' tru mine
so I dont have to copy and paste or track them over and over in cubase.
fuk man....there is always an approach, just open ya mind and see the bigger picture!!

kids are to spoilt nowdays with there meeagy 256 and 512 ram pc's they spend all day using that they begged there parents for.

im yet to fill the 32mb on one project, although i could load up an hour long breakbeat set into that 32mb and freak that shit out, i use a mixture of external modules/synths and samples, do help stretch out the pallette of sounds.

...yup he must B remixing' whole songs in the MPC.

At least it is nice to see that somone understood me. Thanks. I in fact am convinced, and will be getting that mpc2000xl, asap. And I was so cocerned about this topic because I have a friend who is a producer, who has a mpc2000xl, and claims he has 1 GB of ram. I know none of yall are going tp believe it either, like how I was @ first. But it is indeed true. He has one of those things mentioned a few posts up, that flash ROM thing. And got it to 1 gig of RAM, this is why I was asking if there was anyway around it to see if anyone else has herd of it, but I guess not.

1GB of Compact flash memory perhaps?
