Yea guy if you cant work with 5 minutes of sampling time you just dont know what the **** you are doing. Cats I know and my self rarely use over 10mb of memory. What you tring to do? Sample "five minutes of funk" and loop it, lol
I can make 20 tracks with 32 megs!

Ummmmm.....ROM isn't RAM, and never will be.

ROM is "Read Only Memory" and RAM is "Random Access Memory".

ROM is a type of memory that normally can only be read, as opposed to RAM which can be both read and written. There are two main reasons that read-only memory is used for certain functions within the PC:

Permanence: The values stored in ROM are always there, whether the power is on or not. A ROM can be removed from the PC, stored for an indefinite period of time, and then replaced, and the data it contains will still be there. For this reason, it is called non-volatile storage. A hard disk is also non-volatile, for the same reason, but regular RAM is not.

Security: The fact that ROM cannot easily be modified provides a measure of security against accidental (or malicious) changes to its contents. You are not going to find viruses infecting true ROMs, for example; it's just not possible. (It's technically possible with erasable EPROMs, though in practice never seen.)

NO there is nothing you can do the maximum upgrade is 32mb, but jesus thats 189.2seconds(3min9sec) Stereo or 378.6(six minutes18sec) mono sampling time!!! Plus the mcd has a smart card reader and scsi. Man your trippin if you think you need more.

In the past producers have made sick tracks on samplers that only had 11 seconds total sampling time like the emu sp 1200 and the mpc 60 back in the day they just loaded one drum kit couple kicks couple snares and closed, open and pedal highhat, and then you can go crazy on the sequencer you could make a pattern/patterns 10 minutes long crazy drum solos.

Just work with what you got. I have the MPC 2000xl with 32mb to this day i have never used all 3min 9 sec of sample time to make one song. and

my drum kits i use 3 kicks 3 snares 3highhats 3 ghostkicks 3 ghostsnares. those are drummachine sounds then i use another layer of 3 kicks 3 snares and 3 highats that are samples off a records. all different decay's , then i have bassline sample, orchestal hits, scratchsamples etc all sampled in stereo..

From the archives, the MPC2000XL is capable of 40 meg.

The Max is 40 meg, not 32. (This says nothing about "how much one can or should use, just a descriptive note before someone, again, accuses me of being attacking and negative).

some people like my self want to load all (and I mean ALL) of there sound drum samples, synths, whatever you name it all at once. Like my self its not that you are going to use all of that time all in one song but you want to have eveything at you to keep with a creative flow. when I had my mpc2000(classic) all I had in there was 16+2 megs the whole time I owned it and that was because you could only use one program at a time, unlike the xl so the way I had it set up there was no need for more memory. there is nothing wrong with wanting what it is you want and if he doesnt want to go mono on his sample then he shouldnt I dont think its lack of creativity it just that he want waht he want

giggasean wrote:At least it is nice to see that somone understood me. Thanks. I in fact am convinced, and will be getting that mpc2000xl, asap. And I was so cocerned about this topic because I have a friend who is a producer, who has a mpc2000xl, and claims he has 1 GB of ram. I know none of yall are going tp believe it either, like how I was @ first. But it is indeed true. He has one of those things mentioned a few posts up, that flash ROM thing. And got it to 1 gig of RAM, this is why I was asking if there was anyway around it to see if anyone else has herd of it, but I guess not.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDEEE-YAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do we get these guys from?
