pro tools le, can i use non-digidesign hardware with it?

Just got a edirol firewire audio box and plan to use it with pro-tools. Will it work with pro tools LE?

Searched on digidesign.com and google and couldnt find any relevant info.

I think all pt systems require pt hardware, its kinda like software copy protection. However you can use pt hardware with other software. Live, Logic or cubase probably work with that interface though.

unless u go with m-powered PT. digi lisenced PT to m-audio to work on selected m-audio hardware and is totally compatible with all PT systems. you have to buy M-Powered PT plus buy the m-audio hardware. and no, no other software can use digi hardware.

however, if you have let's say the mbox and want more out of it, you can use selected mackie control surfaces,

are you sure about that? I just have the mbox on a mac, so I can only speak for it, but i'm pretty sure you can use it with other software, using the core audio driver or something like that, the computer treats it just like a regular sound card. I assumed that other pt hardware was the same.

if you are using it as an audio/midi interface yes. as a pass through but not utilizing it as you would PT. Example, you can not use the digi002 control surface to control cubase. you can use the audio interface in leiu of a sound card and u can use the midi ports. but to control cubase with the 002, u can not.

i was just pointing out that as an audio/midi interface you can but as a control surface (PT hardware) you can't. that is to my knowledge. now i will research what i stated and if i'm found to have stated something that was inaccurate, i will recant my statement. i never insinuated that "the_cripple" mentioned anything about control surfaces.
