Basic Low Down On Keyboard Workstations

I have no knowledge at all about any of the keyboard workstations on the market. I would like to beef up my knowledge of them. I'm kinda confused about them in general since I am so unfamiliar.

I was wondering if someone can give a basic rundown of what is available and the pros and cons of each. You don't have to get too technical and deep, but just something to get me started.

The ones I know the names of but obviously not too familliar with are the Triton (studio, le, extreme), Motif, and well...that's all I can think of. Anyways, school me on keyboard workstations.

Thanks, but there is no thread about general info. on all the latest or current Keyboard Workstations. I already looked. There's tons of This machine VS. That. Not quite what I'm looking for.

Anyone with a lot of personal experience with these machines please give me some feedback on what you used and your impressions of the gear. Especially of the sounds, sequencing and sampling capabilities in general. Spec sheets only go so far.

Science has checked out a lot of the keyboards personally. Science, can you make a post right here of the different workstations you had and what were your honest impressions about them? I know you've mentioned it somewhere in the forums, but it would be cool to have that knowledge and experience layed out for all the cats to see and be easy to find with searches.

We have talked briefly on the subject, and it sounds like you know what you are talking about.

If you need sounds, Triton, Motif, Fantom, or Karma are all good.(Karma has the Triton soundset included with an incredible group of arpegators - 1500 of them).It comes down to which products sounds you like best...If not, you can pick up a good midi controller cheap. (Eridol comes to mind) Just make sure the keyboard has an action you will like working on and all the features you need (Aftertouch, velocity etc..) With the MPC 4k you eliminate the need for an onboard sequencer and sampler as both are fine in the MPC as lng as you are using a mutiple out board on the MPC. You can also get away with using an older piece like the EMU keyboards - or if you need extra sampling capabilities the Kurzwiel K2500. Personally I wish someone would come out with a keyboard loaded with sounds that is a good midi controller but lacks the sampler and sequencer stuff so the price could come down...

Didn't EMU do that with the pk6, mk6 and xk6 etc..??

i have experience with korg, yamaha, and roland keyboards.
from the korg M1, yamaha sy77, and the roland JX-8P to their newest workstations. let me know what kind of info you're looking for.

i think the triton has a simple layout. but i found the sampling features to be a bit akward. i haven't done any sampling on the motif or fantom though.

as far as sounds go the motif takes the cake but the fantom is a real close second because they have some really great sounds. the triton sounds are cool but try listening to them dry with no effects,it's a different story. but the triton is probably the easiest workstation to use for tweaking your sounds.

What Keyboard Workstations are better all around for sounds, sequencing and sampling?

You mentioned that the triton is awkward for sampling. In what regard do you mean? Is the Triton Extreme much better than the regular Tritons?

This will NEVER happen

becuz ppl will buy it and want to use it as a standalone (if it has internal sounds) thus making the sequencer a necessity

dude do a search, this has been covered millions of times. Alot of cats will overlook this post casue of the amount of times its been covered. Dosearches on tritons, fantoms, and motiff. Youll find all the info your looking for and user notes in these forums.

Is this the only page people turn to in need of information (despite it being geared towards the MPC user)

see i cant wait for cats on here to reply so i go for self. Yahoo and google provide more then enough info for me so i usally just answer my own questions. also the sound on sound website has an excellent search through there archvies and usally any question u have is on there.
