Stereo vs mono for samples?

I just bought some of those MPC multisamples and there great. I noticed that they are recorded as mono, previously all my samples have been stereo wav files. Is there really any quality difference when it comes to using them with my MPC1000? and will they ultimetely affect my mix when tracked out?

i am keen on using mono files as they take take up heaps less space.
