Sampler Quality Question

Currently i have a Boss Sp-505. My problem is that when i try to program a sample that is a different tempo than that of the sequence i want it in, the sound quality of the sample sounds like trash. I was wondering what my options are. I have about $500 i COULD spend, if thats what it comes too. Any advice would be great thanks.

do u want to time stretch or pitch the sample up?

maybe u could use audacity. have u got a pc?

I should have added that i am using the 505 as a sequencer as well. The only pc in my house is like a "family" pc. So it wouldnt work out 2 well. When you pitch shift or do anything too the original sample on the 505 the sound quality is so bad. I just try and keep it in its original form. Say my sample is at 109 and i want too throw it in a sequence that is at 87, the sample sounds so bad i want too throw the damn thing out the window. I was thinking about getting an emu mp7 or a yamaha rm1x to sequence instead of using the 505's sequencer. Im not even sure if that would help.

1. Sell the SP505 on ebay, craigslist, local or whatever.
2. Then take that $500 cash + what you get for the 505 either:
3. Buy a maxed MPC2000
4. Buy a MPC60 with O.S 3.10 and SCSI, you can get one for less that $900
easy.
5. Now you got a decent sampler and a dynamite sequencer. You can add a
rack or sampling keyboard later.

BTW, I keep seeing 250 SCSI Zip drives on eBay for close to $100! WTF?

yo any extreme stretch like that will sound like shit. no matter what u use. U can only timestretch to about 10 bpms up or down before you get "artifacts" on the sound. This is universal with anything that time stretches. So dont try using a loop that is 100 bpms with one that is 80. just wont work. It works for like a seq at 92 and a loop at like 100. then u can do it.

But U Could TIMESTRETCH IT JUS A LIL THEN USE RECYCLE2...IF U HAVE IT....................................

10-15 % stretch lower or higher than the original will start to sound shabby, no way around that.

Follow my first link, look for a website link "deepsound" and go there, you can calculate your timestretches and pitches, loops and stuff there easily.

I dunno about the mp7, but the rm1x doesn't have sample ability, just sequence, and you have to stop the flow when you want to record into your loop, which has always bugged me. It's got some pretty cool things for making patterns in step and grid mode, and some nice realtime midi manipulation, but I think the mpc kills it for recording realtime midi.... but the rs7000 has some timestretch and chopping stuff that might fit your sampliing and sequencing needs, I think they're more than $500 though.

On your question regarding timestretch, I'm not sure what's acceptable for your timestretchin needs, but maybe a rack sampler like one of the A-series samplers has decent timestretch (that can be had 2nd hand for under $500 (the knobs can be a bish though).

I think Roland has the dopest ish for realtime timestretch, but it's prolly expensive.
