not seeing saved files on the PC screen after saving to zip

Still trying to figure out this corrupted folder issue.

Here's another clue: when I save .pgm or .mid files to my external zip, then open the F: folder in my pc, I don't see these files. They eventually pop up after I pop the zip out and back in again. Is there some lag issues from PC to zip that might corrupt files? Any suggestions will help. I just need to know where to be more sensitive with this connection between my PC/zip/mpc, I guess, as I suppose I'm doing something to corrupt whole folders worth of material. One folder went from having .wavs and .pgm/.mid files to having ^%&*(B as file names with ridiculous sizes (25 megs and up), shown on the MPC load screen. And when I check the folder contents on PC, it says the folder is empty.

Could this be as simple as a bad zip disk, or bad zip drive?

Backing up MPC formatted Zips. You really do not want to put MPC formatted Zips into your computer since you risk damaging the partition information, so you need to use a utility that can read the disks below operating system level. There are several options for this: Iomega has a utility called Copy Disk that can make a sector-by-sector copy of disk. This is for a making duplicate disk only and is not possible to a file based copy of the Zip. Just make sure you check the setting for sector copying. You can use Winhex (www.winhex.com). This application has a backup and restore utility that you can use to create an image file of a drive and restore at a later date. disk2file is another utility that operates in a similar manner (www.zicweb.com). Just be sure to read the help files with each of the applications for backing up and restoring image files.

What about putting the zip disk in a Mac?

amazing suggestions, but first I don't own a mac, and spending $ on a new computer right now doesn't sound great (why the hell would I do that anyway, and how does that address the problem???). As for the formatting issue, they're PC formatted. I have saved from MPC on them before. No problem. Just the .pgm and .mid files are giving me issues. Though, as I said, popping the disk out and back in the drive after saving these files from the MPC has the desired effect. Don't worry about it, I think it's probably a bad zip as I copied what I could from it to another disk, recreated the in-question .pgm and .mid files on the MPC, saved my shit and so far so good. Thanks for the suggestions though,

Sounds more like it! 2 things:

1. I'm running XP. Nowhere in the web search did this problem apply to that version of windows (unless "the worst OS ever written" applies to all versions of windows...?).

2. More specifically, this issue was on the MPC3000.com site, and I'm using a 2000xl.

Still, the symptoms sound undeniably close to my exact problem. Is it enough to assume I should follow the same fix, even with the two considerations listed above? Does this problem apply to XP? Do I follow the same steps in updating my registry? Any insight TERRIFICALLY APPRECIATED!!!
